August Bandsters Updates....

Recommended Posts

Hi August Bandsters...

Since it is October I thought we could check-in and see how everyone is doing....weight loss, inches loss, all the NSV's, fills, etc......

I will get us started...

First of all, I feel like a new person... that's the best thing since being banded.

I have lost 38 pounds since my pre-op diet, 27.5 inches are GONE, my NSV's are so numerous I will just mention a few: taking walks with my daughter, swimming again, clothes to big, walking up the stairs without feeling like I am going to die, bending over without feeling like I am going to puke, getting out of a chair without making ugly, groaning noises....

My first fill was last Monday....it was a breeze...he put in .5cc and I have restriction....yeah!!!

So how is everyone else doing???

I hope everything goes well!

I was banded on August 23rd. I've 30 pounds (american money) so far, but I don't get a fill until 12 weeks after the op! I'm halfway there!

I was banded on August 30th, so far I've lost 26 lbs and feel great. I think this band was placed on my brain as well because I have been able to make much better food choices than I ever did before. My pants are almost falling down, I am walking faster, and there is a spring in my step that hasn't been there in years. I am having so much more fun with my kids, and I am only down 26, I can imagine how good I will feel once I lose even more! I have not had a fill yet because I am still losing. Great thread, it will be nice to see where everyone is that was banded around the same time!

Missy,

I hear you, girlfriend....I feel that same exact way.....like a new person (or should I say like my old self prior to much weight gain!!). I am planning things I would have never had the energy for prior to the surgery....trips, doing more with my daughter, just going to the store without feeling like a played a game of football, etc. I called my sister today and she said that even my voice has changed...happier, perky!!!

And as you mentioned, we are just starting the journey...imagine the rest the trip!!!!!!!!

And I also believe someone must have "banded" my brain as I am making MUCH better choices and eating only to survivor NOT to comfort myself.

Missy, keep up the great work and keep enjoying your new life!!

I was banded on August 25th, and am feeling great, I am down 28 pounds. and have dropped 2 sizes in some pants. I am def getting better at the gym, as i spend about an hour doing cardio 4 times a week, something i would have never been able to do.

The best part is people are noticing :)

I go for my first fill tomorrow, and cant wait

Hello to all, I was banded on August 24. I'm feeling great. I hope that it keeps coming off. I had my first fill on Sept 29,2005. It went really well. I'm down about 34 pounds. Good luck to all of you. Pam

I was banded 8/25 and I'm down 24 lbs, but the scale ain't movin' again! I'm sched for my 1st fill this Saturday which will hopefully help because my appetite is about 3/4 now of what it used to be and my Dr said it should be at about 1/3. So, here's hopin' the fill will provide me with the restriction I need! I am down 2 pant sizes now and almost 3. I actually had to go buy some new work clothes because my pants were almost sliding off of my hips when I walked! My goal is to lose a total of 50 by 12/25 - hope I'm being realistic here... Glad to hear you all are doing so well!!! :)

I was banded 8/25 too and am down 23 lbs, unfortunately I didn't measure before surgery so I don't know inches. I have my first fill tomorrow, and I've just started noticing I can eat alot more than I did last week, so it will be good to have a fill.

I feel alot better since the surgery, not as sore and stiff, more energy, asthma is better, and walking more. Down 1 pants and 1 shirt size. One of the big NSV's is my belly isn't putting pressure on my lower ribs, so they aren't sore like they were before.

The hard part is the mental, lots of issues that I've buried with eatting -- and they aren't much fun to deal with and resolve.

But all in all I am happy with my progress, and while it's not easy. . . the band sure makes the weight loss doable.

I, too, am feeling so much better although I am stuck at my current weight loss. I go for my 1st fill on Thursday. Hopefully, this will jump start my weight loss again. I really enjoy this site!

I went for my first fill today, it wasn't any big deal didn't hurt a bit. Only got .5cc so not feeling alot of restriction, mainly because I'm out of town for 2 weeks so I was a little scared of getting too much. Many of you had fills this week, what were your experiences?

I had my fill yesterday, she put in 1cc. It was a simple little pric, Which wan't bad at all, I am on the depo shot as well, so i guess i am used to shots. Although the needle was HUGE.. LOL

My port had actually shifted abit, about an inch from where she put she said. No big deal though, She said she she did not get the first time, then we do it under the Fluroscope. (SP) But she had no problems. I really don't feel any more restriction, but i am taking everyones advice, to give it a few days.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
