Well the doctor gave me a local today. It was numb didn't feel anything but some pressure. I have 4ccs in my band. It took a few pokes but he got it. Wow what a relief..:cool2:

I'm glad the local worked! I have about 2 1/2 weeks until my first fill, and don't want a nightmare!

I have posted my experience elsewhere o the forum, but this seems to be the ideal spot to discuss this.

To reiterate, I had a very hard time getting up on the high table which rolled a bit on its wheels in spite of their being locked. They kept telling me to "scootch" this way and "scootch" that way, much to my exhaustion. Then I had a hard time lying down on my back. I can't even sleep that way. I feel as if I am suffocating. They told me to stand up and tried, without any numbing, to hit the port and fill it without success. Miracle of miracles, the needle did not hurt. Now I have an appointment with the surgeon on Aug. 13th to discuss how to get me the fill. My friends and I have come up with the suggestions that perhaps some pillows might be used under my shoulders to prop me up a bit, and that a mild sedative, like a valium might be employed, also they might book a little longer appointment time so we have plenty of time. It was further suggested that everything be assembled and ready to go before they make me get up o the table. I believe that I will get my fill. I just have to spell out my needs.

I am so sorry to hear of all the difficulty people are having with fills. I had my first fill yesterday, and it was very easy. My doctor does all fills under X-Ray. It took less than 10 minutes. He gave me a lidocane shot first, had me push up my stomach, and hit the port the first time. I only felt a small pin prick. I too was very scared for the first fill. I hope all goes well for you and you get your fill.

I didn't have any problem on my fill in fact they offered to numb me and I told her just go for it. She was great hit it the first time and just a little poke. So don't let all this get to you!

After reading the postings I real pretty lucky. My doctor always numb the area and tells me to do a little situp and it pops right in. I have never watch my fill due to I hate needles. I am about 18 months out and have had too many fills I think and I'm going on my 3 unfill. We just can't get it right. Even I can eat lot or just yogurt which I hate. I have been on a platue since last Sept.

But I can say it doesn't hurt for me. Good Luck.

thereitgoes, don't be worried. Her story is a rare one.

My surgeon does my fills, and he does the poke for the numbing and that does sting a lil but no worse then a shot... Then he circles my port with a pin and goes in with the Fluid to do the fill, he hits it on his first try.. and i dont ever have any bruising or anything.

You just feel some pressure. Don't be worried.. it should be ok:)

I've had one fill and it was really quick and painless. My port was easily accessed - no lidocaine needed - and I barely felt a tiny pinch. It was over in a blink of an eye. I had 4cc's injected. I'm very happy with my suregeon's placement of my port. I think that makes a big difference when it comes to fills. I'm so sorry to hear that some of you have experienced such discomfort with fills - I wish you all easy fills in the future!

Had my fill today, it went fine. He had me stand up and I thought he was just going to look. Next thing I know he is wiping off a spot with alcohol and a little poke; then I felt restriction (felt like a lump in my throat) and then all done! It is true that this is a very individual experience. I wish everyone good fills!

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
