Freedom Fighters Weekly Weigh In

Recommended Posts

Well Mary, I'm on the very slow and low end of the weight loss curve here. I had about 4 months of no weight loss....mostly due to my inability to diet (change all of my eating habits). I am now at what I think is my sweet spot (got a fill two weeks ago) and am now losing weight again. However, I am thrilled with 1 pound a week as long as it averages around there. I have had 3 fills and have 7 cc's in a 10cc band. I really don't think the number of fills or the amount is relevant in comparison with each other because each of us will take different amounts and number of fills. It's what ever works for you.

Even if the weight isn't coming off as fast as you want it too, you are giving your body time to adjust to the lower weight and you should be able to keep it off....for good. And the weight is coming off isn't it?

Hello friends...

I am STRUGGLING! The snacking is OUT OF CONTROL! It is bad because it isn't from hunger... just habit. And these are NOT The habits I want to start. My head is out of the game. It is all mental for me. I updated my ticker to reflect a gain. It has been there over a week now so I have to own it. I have acknowledged the problem and I am ready to deal with it. Just wanted to check in and keep it real!

Head is back in the game... ready to get back to it.

Sorry you are having such a hard time...I had that until my last fill. Do you have good restriction right now? That snacking can really add up. You've done wonderful with your weight loss by the way. You can tell you've been able to follow your plan much better than I have, so even if you are not where you want to be this minute, you'll get back there.

Hello July 09 banders? Where are you? How are you doing? Either everyone has found other threads or have stopped posting.

It would be nice to know how others banded in July 09 are doing? Even June 09.

I was banded on 7-1-09 and done well for a while but I have been slipping a lot lately. I have started back to the "banded" style of eating as of today. I hope everyone else is doing better than I am and I hope that I have better news to share in the next few weeks.

Hello friends. I am struggling. Not much else to say besides that. I am maintaining my weight loss so that is good. I am struggling to force myself to follow my band rules. Not sure why. Anyway, just wanted to check in.

Hello friends. I am struggling. Not much else to say besides that. I am maintaining my weight loss so that is good. I am struggling to force myself to follow my band rules. Not sure why. Anyway, just wanted to check in.

I attended a webinar by my band doctor regarding fills. His contention is you have to eat foods that you chew, 3 times a day, and eat 1/3 of what you ate before banding. Eat slowly and chew thoroughly is part of it. Then tonight's webinar was on nutrition/diet. Everything we eat is our diet...no matter what it is...what we need to strive for is good nutrition. (This one was done by the nutritionist). She stressed the basics, whole grains (50% of our diet), fruits and veggies (5 servings), milk/yogurt (2 servings), meats/beans (50grms daily), fats/oils (3 teaspoons). So most of this is what we learned a long time ago.

My point is, maybe we should not be stressing on the "band" rules of high Protein, low carb, as much as eating slowly, chewing well, and getting good nutrition.

I go through phases of losing a pound here and there and not losing for sometimes several weeks, then I lose again. I think for me at least, it's the fact I'm still losing 8 months later...this has never happened before in my life. Even when I'm not losing, I'm not gaining and that hasn't happened either. So you lose focus on the "band rules" but if you have proper restriction for you, your band should be helping you with maintaining those "rules" at least with the amount you eat and how fast you eat. You still need to make the good nutritional choices (not always easy).

Hang in there Healthy-in-AZ...so there will be two of us in AZ that are healthy.

I don't check in much with the freedom fighters, but guess I really should. I was banded 7-9-09

I feel pretty good about my progress so far. The weightloss slows down sometimes, but I keep on keepin' on. It would be nice if I could reach my goal by july 2010.

I can really understand the struggle, I have also had to struggle to get myself together again. I know how important it is to eat right and get the most nutrition but even knowing that...sometimes we just need to see the numbers on the scale go down!!! So this week I got back into the swing of things by doing the high protein/low carb thing. I know that this isnt the best way to eat. I also know that it doesnt give me all the different Vitamins and nutrients that I need. However, it did give me 7lbs less on the scale this week.....yes, I am aware this kind of weight loss wont last long, it is easier to gain it back, and most of it is probably Water weight but it was what I needed to get my head in the game again. I feel like I accomplished something this week, which also reminded me of the other things that go with the band...like getting off my butt and exercising. I hope everyone else is doing well and not having to struggle. Good Luck

Banded 7-1-09

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
