Shrinking Violets Part 4

Recommended Posts

Good morning, Vi's~~

Went out to dinner w/friends last night for DH's b'day... I don't remember the last time we had an "adults only" night out!... we went to our fav Indian restaurant... just walking into that place relaxes me...

Today is DH's actual b'day, so I'll be baking & cooking, etc. We've got to pick up DS from soccer camp as well. + we woke to rolling thunder & pouring rain. Lovely day!

I read Life of Pi years ago and LOVED it!

Right now I have Shanghai Girls from the library (by Lisa See, who wrote Snow Flower and the Secret Fan) but haven't been able to start it yet... maybe today? (Funny... it was a really long wait for it, so I requested the large print edition & got it right away! lol!)

Today is kind of the "unofficial" end of summer for us... tomorrow begins both kids' Fall sports activities... which run every day of the week, + weekend stuff for the next 3 weeks 'til school starts... ay yai yai!!

Morning gals

what a nice weekend, yest was so perfect so we played in the pool until almost 11 last night, first time that has been possible. OK i did go for 2 walks and did some laundry and went to wally world for a couple of things but a nice day. Not sleeping still but what i did sleep was good last night and was up a 5:30 and on the road walking at 6:30 this morning and already mowed the lawn and about to scrub the floor.

We are getting more storms today so i'm going to finish laundry and clean so tomorrow when it is 85 with 0 humidity again we can be outside all day.

finally... summer.

Michelle, We have 3 weeks left of summer for the same reasons, Cheer starts on 8/23 and school doesn't start until 9/8 (very late this year). DD has been working every day to get back in shape, stretching and sit-ups and ran a couple days last week. We are all trying to get into shape.

I made this creamy balsamic low fat salad dressing last night, i just tasted it but yummy.... and so easy if anyone wants it. White Northern Beans is what makes it creamy, sounds strange and my friend said looked gross but when we tasted, she was shocked too.

Today is day 4 of chicken broth and s/f popsicles. Still holding 203, which is frustrating, but i've been walking 5-6 miles a day and 3 of them have been all uphill and i have cut my time on that one so i hope that has something to do with it. I am going to get another tape measure so i can at least take measurements again. A new beginning with my band, and i only have 25lbs I want to lose... why is that so hard.

Pamela, can't wait to see more pics!

Tracyk- glad Macy is better have fun!

hey everyone

Michelle did you read Animal farm? If so, did you like it?

I am going through Carson's clothes once a week packing up stuff he can't wear. It's kind of sad how quick they grow, he has so many clothes he never even worn, or only wore once!!

Jane...too funny!

Laura, I read Animal Farm a few times to my class. At the middle school level, and the fact that ALL my kids are second language learners, I read it to them and many of the political implications are lost on them. However, it is one of my fav's and the kids like it. Plus, afterwards we make really cute diaramas!

I am REALLY trying to read The Glass Castle, but my eyes are still too puffy. I have some serious bags under my eyes. this diaper thingy strap (straped under the chin, around the back and around the forehead) is like a vice grip on my head. I LOVE when I get to take it off to eat or do my warm compresses. My chin looks good,...there is one pouchy thing, but it should still go down.

I'll take a quick pix later w/ my phone and send out an email today, I promise. I am going to try to eat some salad...wish me luck!

Laura, quick suggestion:

Take a swatch of each of his little outfits he wears or you love. Cut the a 6x6 of the ones you REALLY LOVE or the special ones that remind you of him or some special event. Give the rest away or whatever w/ them. Do this for a few years (it doesn't take up too much room). But then in a few years, you (or if you are like me...have someone) make him a quilt. It can be very boy-ish w/ all sports stuff, or all the animal stuff, very blue. But the quilt can be dry cleaned and saved and given to his first son...or to him when he is older (but it wont last as long). My SIL did this for all 3 kids and she made quilts. Some of the 6 x 6 swatches the kids remember wearing, others are from when they were babies. She gave the quilts to the kids (9,7 4) and they LOVE them. Just a suggestion...and it is a cute mom project, especially if you give it to his first son or something special or cool llike that.

Are you going to have him baptised?

Great minds think alike Pam )

I found that while I was pregnant (I am not crafty), a website where you send in 16 of your favorite outfits, and they make a 4x4 quilt using a square cut out of the front. I am going to make one of his first year clothes, so far I have the outfit I brought him home in (blue with a giraffe on the chest), the elephant outfit Haydee gave me, and a yellow one that has an elephant and a mouse on it.

I think it's a great idea, the website I stumbled across, was after we picked out his name and their 'display' quilt to show you how it works, was someone with a baby named Carson, so most of the squares featured personalized cut up clothes that had C or Carson on it. Heh!

Haydee, when I got preg I became a frequent to the LBT pregnancy area. I still haunt there even though I'm not preg, I like to follow progress of the other girls I was preg with... and now I see SO MANY new LBT'ers are joining every day, so much babiness in the air. I was just thinking about you, can't wait till you can join in there... and post your positive stick, and ultrasounds, and and... hehehehe. I have baby fever for you. I'm not looking forward to doing it again just yet, but I like to excitement of tracking it.

:):crying:Here's Russ' haircut. I don't dislike it, but I loved the long hair. Everyone keeps giving him grief, so I told him he can cut it but don't shave it (he gained too much weight, shaved head looks really bad on him). This works out, he can not wear his hat (which is a cold day in hell) and it still looks alright.

And here's stinky with his grambee outfit on. I think his eyes are stayin' blue! :)

Oh my gosh, I can never get tired of seeing pics of Carson!! Too cute!!!!

I think I am done with the bathroom running today. Last 1/2 hour or so I haven't gone and food has stayed in tummy!!

For the past two days I have been telling myself that I love myself and respect myself. Is there a way to get a tracker for a 5 pound loss? I am going to check it out.

I made the June and July, but do need to keep better track.

Okay everyone have a great start to a new week!!

Morning Girls.

Extremely tired this morning. I guess cramming in 15 hours of "Lost" will do that to you. lol.

Yesterday my sister went to the store and wanted ot know if she bought all the stuff and did all the rest of the work, would I make a meatloaf for the family. Yeah, you guessed it. I ended up making the whole meal and doing all the dishes. When will I ever learn. Well, at least it was a REALLY good meal.

Getting ready for work. It's supposed to get into the mid 90's today. Hopefully I'll be able to get in the pool later today.

Everyone make it a good one.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
