I started on my treadmill the week after surgery, but I just had my post-op today and was given the clearance to do everything except for ab-exercises.

I just toured a new really nice gym near my house and I think I'm going to go join it! I want to work on losing and toning as well. This gym also has a swimming pool and lap pool and that makes me very happy!

Wasn't there a thread with an exercise challenge? We need to get that going!

I started walking as soon as I got out of the hospital bed, but I can't walk very much at all... only about a half a mile and then I'm wiped out! I asked the surgeon about it last week and he told me not to worry, that it takes a while after surgery to get back up to speed (I used to be able to walk a lot more). The important thing, he said, was for me not to push it because that could then cause a set back. He'd rather I go slow. So, that's what I'm doing. But! I did put a new battery in my pedometer, so I'm trying to get more steps in during the workday, and I'm parking very far away wherever I go. Every little bit helps!

I started walking 1 hour a day last week, I think I walked about 3 days last week and so far 3 times this week. I hoped I hadn't pushed myself but today I'm having some port pain I'm gonna give it a little time before I call doc. It is just weird because I haven't had pain there since first week and now it started back. Is anyone else having this problem?

I am 3 days post-op and I took the pup for about a 3 mile walk today at dog beach. ugh. I think I overdid it. I am really hungry right now cause my caloric intake has been so minimal and then I did all that walking. Hungry but can't eat. What a weird sensation. I'm sipping on broth right now.

I had my surgery on May 6th and I have been doing treadmill and I am almost up to 20 min's, then I lift weights for 15 min's and then I go to a Water Aerobics class for an hour. I have been doing this for a little over a week now. I go in the morning for an hour class and then after Tuesday's and Thursday's I do laps for 30 min's.

I have loved doing the Water aerobics.. It is low impact and gives you a great workout. I highly recommend it.

Well this is my work out schedule.

Monday -

Treadmill - 20 min's

Weight's - 15 min's Arms and Legs

Aqua Fit class

Tuesday -

Yoga ball 30 min's

Band strenghting 30 min's

Arthritis Aqua class

Laps

Wednesday-

Treadmill - 20 min's

Weight's - 15 min's Arms and Legs

Aqua Fit class

Thursday-

Yoga ball 30 min's

Band strenghting 30 min's

Arthritis Aqua class

Laps

Friday -

Yoga Ball & Bands 30 min's

I Work Fridays so I am then gone to work.

But, then do the Night Aqua Class

Saturday-

Aqua Class

Sunday -

Walk with the Kids

I am up to almost 1.5 miles hope to be at 2 miles by the end of the month.

I really like the variety in my days.. When summer comes and the kids are out of school then I am sure this will have to change slightly.

Happy Losing:tt2: Karianne

I've been walking a mile a day every other day. I have been looking for a gym to join but haven't found one I like. I am going to be looking into Curves. I would love to find a gym with a pool and do Water aerobics, but everything is about 20 minutes or more away. I could walk the Curves though it is about a .5 mile from my house.

Curves is great. I did it a few years ago before I gained all the excess weight that required me to get the lap band and it helped me back then...as long as you stick to healthy eating and regular attendance.

My goal is to be back to walking half an hour this weekend. I'm also going to get one of those GoWear Fit things that keep track of how much I'm burning throughout the day. I want to be able to see how I'm doing, and where I need to improve.

Karebare, Do you have arthritis? because I do, in my hip. I was told until my strength gets back up to do swimming. because it's the lowest impact. and do to the fact my arthritis is sooo bad (Basically, I got banded to avoid hip-replacement at 28 yrs old) I have limitations on Excercise until some of the pressure is relieved off of the hip- funny thing when I came out of anesthesia, thats what I was crying about, how much my hip & knee hurt, not my incisions. But so far walking around has been o.k. need to sit after 8 minutes, also, I drove last night to the store, I don't think it was wise, but it was near by.

I've been trying to walk 30 min. perday. My doc does not weant me to lift anything more than a gal of milk for 6-8 weeks. Besides my Lapband , I had my gallbladder removed. Walking has been good. trying to do a few things around the house for exercise.

Everyone is doing great....Keep it up......:wink2:

Sarah,

I have lupus so I have to choose my exercise wisely or I am down in bed for days. So, that is why I do the arthritis class.

I am so sorry to hear that you have to deal with such pain.. I could only imagine. I hope you can find some help or find something that gives you exercise with out the pain.

I also like curves, I have done it in the past but was to much for my body. But it is a good work out. For now I am doing better with the Water low impact exercise.

Thank you! Sorry to hear about you. But this is a journey we're all on together, flaws and all...

Well I'm happy to report (despite still being gassy as hell) I'm down my first 10lbs. Doing the liquid before and basically nothing (as the hubby said earlier, when I'm ready for my plate of nothing for dinner let him know) go figure... so congrats to everyone!!!!

Karebare, I'm sorry to hear that you have lupus. And sarahbellzz, sorry to hear about your arthritis in your hip. I can sympathize with both of you. I have fibromyalgia, which affects all of my muscles and joints, especially my legs and hips. Plus, I have arthritis in my knees. Like you KB, if I'm not careful about my exercise, I will be flat out and on pain meds for days. I was so excited to hear that the pool in my neighborhood in my pool offers Water aerobics in the evenings. I've been looking for an arthritis class, but everything is during the day, when I'm at work.

Take it easy and slow, but keep on moving and hang in there!

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
