I have heard that the Lap Band AP is the most recent version and that it comes in 10cc or 14cc. Do you think that I should request one size over the other?

What size do you have?

The size band that the Dr will put in depends on the size your body needs. The Dr will only know this when he sees your internal size on the operating table. So it is not your choice. It is the Drs' knowledge that should determine what size band you get. There is also a 4cc lapband for people who need a smaller band.

Best of luck to you on your surgery!!! Keep me up to date and feel free to Private Message me if you would like to talk with someone who has been through it sucessfully.

I think your surgeon, if he uses the Lap Band AP, will pick which size works best for you. That's the point of it; to pick the one that works best around each person's stomach opening. They may let you pick Lap Band or Realize band, but they shouldn't let you pick the size band if you go with the AP.

The only 14 cc band (so far) is the lap band. Realize just comes in one size, like lap band used to!

Guess I should have answered "None of the above" in the poll instead of "....10cc not AP".

As long as what you have works...I don't think it really matters in the vast scheme of things!

Hey my Doctor told me to choose either the lap band or the Realize band, he said it was up to me. Since the only thing I have read is that the REalize band is wider than the Realize band I am very interested in knowing if your REalize felt restricted after the first fill or not? What made you go with this instead of the lap band? You have done amazing if I am reading your ticker right. If you wouldn't mind telling me why you chose the REalize band over the regular lap band. Thanks.

You know it sucks, I have no clue what band I have, before I went into the op theatre I asked my surgeon what size it would be and he just said they're all basically the same and it's the biggest one - Yeah right, I know there are like 5 different types so it's kinda hard to know which one but if I had to guess probably the 14cc, he sticks with the actual manufacturer brand so probably the actual lap band as well but I could be wrong - Hopefully I'll find out next month when I go for my first fill =)

I have the AP 10cc band. It comes down to what brand tour doctor likes and probably which company he has a supply contract with . But from most of my reading besides the AP coming in 2 sizes the differences are minimal.

The surgeon will choose the right size for your anatomy. I found this comparison on the lapband website. I know it's from the Lapband point of view, but it's still quite informative. The chart on the bottom illustrates the differences between the bands.

Lapband.com - LAP-BAND® vs. Other Bands

The following is put out by Realize. It illustrates the differences in a clinical trial.

Compare The REALIZE Band System to Lap-Band - REALIZEBand.com

I personally have a 4cc Lapband.

I had a choice between the LB and the Realize band. I chose the LB. As said, the doc either picks the APS (Standard) or the APL (Large) depending on your anatomy during the surgery...I got the APS. Realize recently came out with a new band; the Realize "C", but some docs are still using the old version. The new one is supposed to make it more comparible with the LB. I still would have picked the LB (I liked the non-crease wedge sections) although the results are similar with all of them.

i had a choice between lap band and realize and decided to go with the realize band because the port was a bit smaller. that was the only real difference i could see.

i have the 14cc band and my first fill was 4.5 cc's I do feel restriction but not as much as i was hoping to get. I feel more of a chest "tightness" than restriction

Mine is a new Realize Band and it is 11ccs. My friend went to Mexico and has a 4cc band. I think they are right - it depends on what you look like when they look inside.

I also have the Realize-C band which is 11 cc. I didn't know I was getting it. I haven't had my follow up yet, but my surgeon said he likes it because of the pre-curve of the band.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
