Hi All

I am 2 weeks and 2 days post op. I started soft foods on Friday and I have thrown up almost everyday since then. Has anyone else experienced this. Also my weight loss is minimal even though I am not eating. I am down 8.5 lbs since surgery and 13lbs in the two weeks before Total 21.5 lbs in one month. What can anyone recommend to help speed up the weight loss. I have not been able to exercise up until now because I had a really roough ride. Looking forward to hearing other people's experiences. Thanks

Carol, Glad surgery went well. I am 10 days out from surgery and each day getting better. I have already lost 11 lbs.Getting your Protein in I think is the key, it promotes healing along with preventing hunger.Remember walking also helps the gas problem. MiMi

Please call your surgeon NOW! You should NOT be throwing up daily...this is NOT normal. This is bad for your new band and can cause complications when done repeatedly. Continured vomiting can also make your stoma swell which will cause more vomiting and problems. Please call them today and let them know what's going on. It could be as simple as what you're eating, how fast you're eating it, or how much you've chewed it, but they can help you determine what to do and they may want you to go back to liquids for a few days. Please let us know how you're doing! Best wishes! -BG

Thanks MiMi! I am glad to hear it. I am still so gasey I am not fit to be in public! Heck even the dogs don't want to be around me. Absolutely everything I put in my mouth causes me to feel bloated. I know it will get better, but man I wish it would hurry.

On a serious note, IsItWorth it - yes please call your doctor. You should not be vomiting. My doc sent me home with phenergan supp. to prevent it. They did not even want me retching in the recovery room. Your band can slip and cause serious problems to your stomach.

Let us know how you are doing?!

Did you call yet? :blink::):thumbup:

Murphy here:

I had the 1st fill yesterday. 3cc. I was starting to have hunger and virtually no restriction. The doctor said back to liquids for a few days and protien shakes. I was banded on the 9th and to date have lost 10 pounds. I ma not sure if that is good or bad. I heard pre fills is a time for healing...Now, I believe is when the weight starts coming off. I go back to the doctor May 22 for 2nd fill of 3cc.

Thanks for all the support from my fellow "April Bunny Bandster's". It is comforting to know you are all out there going throught similiar situations.

Wow! 3cc!!! I seem my doctor in 2 weeks, I hope I don't get a piddly .5cc's.

I'n on three weeks post op. My weiht loss is slow. Maybe 2 pouynd a week.

Guess it's time to pull out the big guns and "START MOVING MY BODY (BUTT)". I refuse to eat less food, I'm only eating 800 - 1,000 a day. It is now time to begin using the bow flex I purchase 6 years ago and haven't used once.

Guess I'll have to get tough with my doctor and tell him I refuse anything less than a 3cc fill.

I'm sorry to hear that - maybe it was too soon to start on soft foods. I didnt start soft foods until 3.5 weeks and even then I feel queasy at times with certain things and was told that particular item, my stomach just wasnt ready for. I do agree, call the doc and see what they say. I wish you all the best.

MURPHY - good job on your weight loss. Keep up the good work and thanks for sharing with us your progress.

VAYIAYA - yah, I found that I havent hit 1,000 on my daily calories either. I find it strange but dont feel starving (thank God!) or stuffed. I'll find out if that's ok to do when I see the doc this Friday. I can't imagine what it will be like when I do get a fill. eeps.

Hey there. I agree with BG, call you doc and let him know what is happening. Maybe you just need to stick to liquids for a bit longer. Remember this time is for healing, not really losing, so don't worry too much about the pounds coming off. They will. Also make sure you are getting enough Protein in...that really helps the healing and feeling full. Hang in there and let us know how you are doing. Sending a hug your way. It will get better soon.

Will be seeing the surgeon on Monday, first time since surgery. Have been on full liquids since 4/24. Next is soft foods, I did try a soft egg and did all right, it just sat on my stomach. Has anyone had trouble going back to food?

I have lost 15lbs since surgery, total of 41lbs since 1/09.

Back to work on Tuesday. MiMi

I start the solid phase tomorrow and am looking forward to what the future has to offer.

ISITWORTHIT - What clinic were you banded at? I had mine at Slimband and I am on pureed until day 20. Please be sure to contact your Dr and get everything checked out due to your vomiting.

Hi everyone! I am 10 days post banding and still on full liquids til day 15. I think I forgot what eating solid food feels like! But I guess it's the Protein Powder but I feel much less hungry than I would have thought. Evening time seems to be the worst. But so far so good...

Well, just thought I'd say hi to everyone and wish all the moms out there and wonderful Mother's Day!;):unsure:

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
