Getting tighter as time passes

Recommended Posts

This week I have been SO much tighter. I was filled awhile ago, and I think I'm scheduled for another fill next week. I don't need it.

I get worried b/c I hear of people who have food stuck and rotting in their esophagus and things like that.

Example:

(Jan 1) New Years a.m we went to brunch. I had about 3 bites of egg and 3 bites of turkey sausage, and a little bite of a tortilla and avocado from someone else's huevos rancheros. I was sick at lunch and PB'd. Had a shake for dinner.< /p>

(Jan 2) I ended up going to brunch AGAIN. I could only eat about 3 bites of my quiche and felt sick. Later in the day I had my leftover quiche but nothing else the rest of the day.

(Jan 3) No Breakfast, didn't eat until 4 pm. I had about 4 bites of refried Beans mixed w/ ground beef. Made me feel queasy. Dinner at around 8 pm I had Soup and salad and it was fine. In the evening I had about 3 Cookies.< /p>

(Jan 4) I couldn't eat breakfast at all and at lunch had about 4 bites of chicken. For dinner last night I had 1/2 cup of macaroni, which goes down easy for me. Again I had 3 cookies.

It seems like it's getting harder and harder for me to eat. My calories are not exceeding 800-900 and that's lower than my usual 1100-1200 calories.

Should I be worried?

Hey there, littlefroggy.

A few things to consider. My band is really affected by my mood. If I'm stressed, it tightens, even when I don't realize I'm in a stressful situation. I'm tighter in the morning and when I haven't eaten anything for a few hours. I get up and eat a little something before going out for breakfast or brunch, just to test the waters and to loosen up before heading out and to avoid issues. You can have some tea/coffee before a meal to try to loosen things up. Also, be sure you go to your fill appointment even if you don't need it. Your doctor may take a little out if it doesn't improve or suggest you not get a fill this time around. Regardless, if you have insurance, you should still go!

I also have issues with eggs. I know a lot of people eat them with no problem, but for some reason, I'm better with crispy pizza than scrambled eggs! No idea as to why.....The last thing you might want to consider is your menstrual cycle. When I'm PMS'ing or have my period, I'm far tighter.

Hope that helps. Good luck. Be sure to find ways to get in enough calories or you'll slow down your losing.....

I was TOO tight after my last fill that half way home I had to turn around and go back. Swallowing Water was too hard. And now a week out I still have good restriction. Some of us feel MORE restriction a week or 2 after a fill. Most times I can't eat breakfast and I've gone from never PB'ing to doing so many times a week. I wouldn't encourage anyone to leave their Drs over-filled 'cause it might just get worse.

I am new to this website and my surgery is scheduled for 02/25/2009. Not to sound stupid, but what is pb'ing? Vomiting?

Yes, I didn't know before the surgery either... for some reason the dr's don't tell you much about this side effect.

If you over eat or don't chew well, your stomach can't handle the food. It comes up, often with this thick saliva. It's horrible and gross. I don't vomit like I used to, it's just chewed up food that comes back up.

I don't care if that happens, the surgery was still worth it!!

I do this quite often. I was filled 12/5 and haven't had to have another one yet. I think dr.'s are different. My Dr filled me to 3.2mm the first time, but I've seen where some only get 1? Anyways, PB isn't fun, but it happens, it's alot better than actually vomitting! It is just like spitting up, kinda like when you need to burp and a little comes up. Sounds grose, but it happens, lol

Me too! Do you ever find yourself dehydrated? I usually can't eat more than 1/4- 1/2 @ a time, and the past fews days I haven't felt well, so I really haven't eaten allot. I don't do well with Pasta or bread of course.

Hi DoxieMom, I think there is a link that explains what all the bander terms are but Pb'ing is productive burping. This is all stuff that you need to know before hand. Regurgitating food was never an issue until I got banded (different then actually throwing up).

No it is not right, not by most doctors standards anyway. He says 1/2 to 3/4 cups.So yes I think you need a fill if he dont want to fill you I would find a new doctor. How much have you lost in a year?

This is for the OP -- your pouch may be irritated and once it gets irritated, if you don't allow it to recover fully, every time you eat anything solid, you just irritate it further. It's cumulative. Why don't you try the 5 Day Pouch Test to give your pouch a chance to rest and recover?

Donna , you're right. I just went for a follow up yesterday and found out i was swollen and my band a slipped a little!!! My PA told me once you PB, your pouch swells and you should do liquids for 2 days then soft for 2 days. My PA said I was way too full and took out 2cc since I was at 3.8. I go back next Friday to see if the band has gone back to the correct position.

Oh what is the 5 day pouch test?

The 5 day pouch test is 2 days liquids, 2 days mushies and 5th day easing into soft solid. If you click on the link in my original post, it will take you to the website with full description, sample menu and recipes.< /p>

I was filled like you... about 6 cc or maybe more on my first fill (during the surgery I was already filled a little bit.) My doctor said they found people can handle that for their first fill and will lose quicker than coming in and getting only 1 cc each time. It's good because in the 5 months since my surgery I've had 3 fills and am losing and restricted, so I'm glad they did that.

As for the pouch test, that's a good idea. I think I'm doing better now. I am wondering if that was attributed to my flying (I went on vacation) or if it was my menstrual cycle. I'm back to "normal" now which means I am still tight in the morning but get looser in the evening.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
