Post-Op Reporting in!

Recommended Posts

This is Glenda Reporting in after surgery yesterday morning. I took a long time in recovery because of my nausea problem. I get real bad sick. Got a lot of sleep last night and this morning. I'm slowly puttering around today. I have been praying for Chrissy and Stephanie. Hope you ladies are doing well. I will be much more interesting tomorrow...

Hooray for Glenda! Yes, we can wait until Chrissy and Stephanie check in. They may still be sleeping. I did a lot of that. LOL!

Peanutband is here to check in. I DID IT!!!! I think this was worth it also. I am up but still hurts on the bottom area with some pressure in the chest area. Do you all had that too! Is this normal? I am fine in the long run. I had to sleep in the recliner and I hope to be able to sleep in my bed tonight. How long did it take for you all to sleep in your beds? I am not hungrey at all.

Yep that pain is normal! It eases up after a few days but I'm at day 5 and still have some. All I can say is walk it out! Its a lifesaver. I wish I had a recliner! I have a bed (hard to get out of) and a couch (not comfy to sleep on). I slept in bed the first night. I was just fine in it but had DH get me out of bed or I'd be stuck! I wasnt hungry at first but now I get a bit hungry but nothing a very small meal cant fix. Literally tablespoons of food is filling. Glad your happy with your decision!

I am getting much better everyday. I was able to sleep in my bed lastnight. DH also helped me in and out of bed too. I am in love with sf popcicles right now. They do stop the hungry pains I think I am having. My belly makes all kinds of nosies. I hope this stops soon. Has anyone heard from mommaof3boys yet. She was done the day before me.

Hello!! My date was Friday- 9th. Everyday is getting so much better!! Lovin' the naps!! LOL However, I do have a dry-erase board on the wall to remind me to take my antibiotics (every 8 hrs) , pain (every 4 hours) & walking (every 2-3 hours). That was a lot to remember, especially when you're kind of out-of-it from the pain meds. =) :tongue2:

I don't think that I am having hunger pains, it's more of my brain says - hey girl, you havent eaten any Mexican food or have our family friday night pizza. You "should" be hungry. So, i did bring out the hot cocoa, it told those voices something else!! LOL

There are a few things that I am learning on my own.. ya, dont lay down after you have drank.. give yourself some time to let it get down, you wont have any air bubbles. I feel like a baby, honey- please pat my back to burp me!! LOL

Hey! Thought I would check in to say hi to some fellow January bandsters. Same month, different year though! I was banded Jan. 9, 2008. I can still remember how I felt the week after surgery! The first week was pretty rough for me. If you're in a lot of pain, I promise it will pass. Seems like most of you are handling it pretty well though, which is great!

JenzNewLife09- we were banded the same day! I can't believe it's been a year since I was banded! Before you know it, it'll be Jan 9, 2010 and you'll have been banded for a year!

Just wanted to congratulate all of you on getting and banded and wish you and the rest of the New Years Hotties getting banded this month a lot of success with your bands!

Congrats Peanutband , I'm so happy you had made it through so well, I did say a pray for you . I'm 2 days away from having mine done and must say still scared as hell ,but I'll be alright (I hope). One thing I wish I had was a recliner my girlfriend gave my her pull out bed (couch) just for the reason of having the surgery .I've slept on it for 2nights just to see it would feel ,and I must say it SUCKS! I can only image how hard it is going be after wards . I do have a king size bed upstairs ,but my bathroom is down stairs. The 1/2 is under construction (upstairs) has been for 2weeks now .I have a lounge in my living room ,I think I'm better off in that and besides it's already broken in . Again best wishes ,and now you on your way !

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
