The therapist I have seen that I like is Paula Smith at Elk Grove Kaiser. She is trained in eating disorders etc. I haven't seen her in a long time and now realize it has probably been a year so I will have to go through intake again. ugh. I really need to see her again as I am feeling like such a failure most of the time and the self loathing isn't a good thing.

I did Atkins for a week before I went n vacation - it was hard to just eat the Protein as my band prevented me eating more than a little bit at a time (good thing but also bad thing) as I was hungry and sick of meat after a few days.

What time are we meeting on May 14th in Vallejo?

I can only go if we leave early! I have to be back up here by 2. I think Chris may be off that day and come with us, I so want you all to meet him!!

I think an Atkins-type program (I like South Beach) can work well with the band. It's not just meat; it's also eggs and cheese and vegetables. I also get frustrated (and starved!) when I can only eat 2 tblspoons of a dense protein! That used to fill me up when I was 4 months or 6 months out from surgery, but at 30 months out uhm - NO. But I can eat LOTS of veggies, and quite a bit of cheese, and eggs are better than fish. I know that I have to cut the carbs back out, but when the ulcer flares up like it is right now, Protein alone just plain HURTS! I end up eating oatmeal oatmeal oatmeal. Oatmeal with butter (lol) and salt; oatmeal with cream, oatmeal with berries, etc. It fills me up without hurting, but then I crave carbs all day! I really did SO much better when I was off of the carbs. It really gets rid of cravings!!

Back to work - let me know if we can meet early like 9 ish!!

Hello Ladies, I've missed you all!

I'm happy to report that I FINALLY HAVE A SURGERY DATE!!! After 2 years, 2 hospitals, 2 surgeons.... I'll be getting sleeved on June 22 by Dr Alami at SSF and I couldn't be happier. Unfortunately, I won't be able to make it to the walk (we're going to a wedding that morning). I do hope to get together with everyone soon.

Congratulations Heather!!

Pam, I'm sorry that eating is so tough on you. I can so relate to not feeling great about yourself. I have watched so many people breeze through this surgery process and get to goal so quickly, while shedding each ounce has been torture for me. I honestly thought it would be easier than this has been. Last summer doing 3 hours of exercise daily with a trainer and I was still only able to shed 3 pounds a month, was so darn tough. I'm still fighting my way towards my goal. In January I decided to go back to Atkins and did get 10 pounds off in 3 months. Lately, I find that I'm doing a little better with adding in more veggies. I'm not a bander so I don't know how dense Protein feels to you, but I'm so sorry that it hurts you.

Riley, hang in there with your ulcer. Are there less carby foods than oatmeal that you can eat and still feel good? Aren't tofu scrambles pretty easy on the system? I was a vegan/no sugar/flour for over 10 years and ate a lot of tofu. How does that work with your bank?

Have a fun weekend everyone!

I totally agree with Pam and Riley. I don't get full on the protiens but I do get stuck. Never realized that until you guys said it. THat is exactly right. I don't stay full folr 4 hours when I eat protiens. I can only eat a little bit at a time but get so hungry I am ready to eat ano hour or so later. Wow I need to let that sink it. YOu guys nailed it.

Heather you SO SO deserve this. I sorta would like to have it in Kaiser RIchmonds face that your getting your surgery. LOL. But that is just me!!

Reggie - I saw her every two weeks for I think 2 months then once a month for about 4 months. Then I checked in with her last August. I need to call them and see if it has been a year since I have seen her - hopefully not as if it is I will have to go back through intake again.

I can't stomach eggs unless it is egg salad with pickles or a deviled egg - I ate so much scrambled eggs after being banded, they make me nauseous now.

YAY!!! Heather congratulations. What made you decide to go with the sleeve? I wonder if the success rate is higher?

I decided to go with the sleeve after following along with everyone over the past two years. Too many people can't eat the right foods, but the wrong foods go down fine. I also talked to several people who had the band and wished they hadn't (or wished they'd just had the sleeve in the first place). One of the things that really helped was learning that my grandfather had essentially the same surgery in the 1950's. He had ulcers and back in the olden days they would remove about 80% of the stomach. He could never eat a ton of food at any sitting and was a very slim man while his siblings were morbidly obese (and they were both diabetic, Type 2) From what my grandma told us, he actually was on the hefty side before his surgery but ever since then he was slim. He lived well for 45 years or so after his surgery.

I have surgery in 46 days! I'm really excited now. I've been working so long and it's finally my turn. I'm excited to see the body hiding inside me. And I must admit, I'm also excited to take the time off work, and to finally get rid of my gallbladder (I've had at least 9 attacks) I wonder if they'll let me play with my gallbladder after surgery?

I hope you all are doing well! I miss my ladies!

I'm excited for you Heather - you worked long and hard enough to get where you are. How long are you going to off work?

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
