How are the banded Notorious Novembers???

Recommended Posts

He put in .75cc but then took out .5cc two days later so I kept .25cc. I am now at 5.75cc in a 10cc band. My fills are pretty small but that is all it takes for me. Any bigger ones and I close off completely and end up in the ER.

I have gone from a size 18 to currently a 12. I was wearing XL t-shirts to paint in and am now in mediums. I have had to buy all new shoes. Went from an 11 to my old 9 & 1/2. I did not realize my feet were so fat!

I have two new pairs of really sexy boots to wear this winter and I am so excited! Before, my calves would never have fit!

To be quite honest, no exercising. I paint about three days a week but that is pretty much it. I have been learning, like we all have. I think it is constant persevence and sensible balanced food choices. Basically, I eat healthy and, if I lose a couple of pounds I treat myself to a chocolate milkshake. Depending on how many pounds I lose determines the size ofshake I get!

I try to keep the healthy balance but also the psychological balance. Chocolate balances that for me!

My success is due to many thing all combined together. The Band, the gym 5 days a week, my BodyBugg. I think that everything together has really been the key for me. The band alone needs some assistance, at least for me it does. When i skip the gym for a week I can almost guarantee myself that the scale wont move. i have to put in alot if effort on my part as well. It hasn't been as easy asI thought but it has all been worth the effort.

My weight loss has really only stalled when I am not eating enough. If I am too tight or swollen for some reason, I know the scales won't move. If I am eating, they will.

I know I will hit a point where I am going to be required to boost my activity level but I think for now it is pretty good. I think the painting must be activity enough for now.

I am getting my band removed Jan 8 or 15. I can't wait to get my life back. I cannot eat hardly anything without PBing. Normally I have a Meal Replacement for Breakfast, Soup (liquid) for lunch and ice cream occasionally in the evenings. I try eating solids but usually throw them up. This has been a nightmare from the beginning. Plus 14 grand wasted. Oh well-better luck with dieting.

I have had the same problem, once in April and then again within the past couple of weeks. I had to be completely unfilled in April for a couple of weeks, then again now...last week they took out 2cc (left me with 4 inside), the pbing stopped but the pain continued...then a couple of days ago, I had to go back in to have it drained to 0cc, the doctor said I need to give it a rest for a couple weeks again, but since I am still having pain, they are running some tests. I think I am swollen in there, that is why I still have some restriction with no fill. I think maybe it was something I ate, or maybe I didn't chew well which caused the swelling (like you, it started about three weeks after my last fill). Maybe you are swollen? That will cause the band to seem tighter than it did-you should see your doctor, before it causes more problems....best of luck to you

Did you ever find out the cause since it must have happened early on? Was it a problem with the surgery do you think? Any chance of getting any money refunded??

Is there any reason why you will wait until Jan to have it removed? Do you have to pay for the removal as well? Where did you have your band done? What were your first symptoms that you had a problem? I am curious since I am having some problems. I had a barium swallow today--I was totally unfilled a couple days ago (this is the second time, I was unfilled in April for a couple of weeks too). I had pb'ing for the past few weeks, almost everything I ate, but somedays, not at all? It was strange, one day I could eat a banana, the next day NOPE! They took out 2cc last week, which stopped all pb'ing or vomiting but I still had pain, so I went a couple of days ago and had the band drained totally--and my pain got worse...I feel the pain where the band is (and I know exactly where since I felt sharp pains when the fill was removed). I am sorry for you what you are going through. Good luck to you, as for myself, if my band has to come out, I am going to have the MGB done at the same time.

Well, whatever was causing me trouble appears to be gone...4 days (and 5 pounds!) of not being able to eat. Yuck.

The band never worked. I lost weight because I threw up for months. I cannot wait to get it out.

Mom2Two - I hope the removal goes without complication and you can get back to life without pain. I'm so sorry that happened to you - a slipped band is no joke.

Maybe you will have a cause of action against the doc who put it in the wrong place? Seems to me that they should be responsible for at least SOME of what you've been through...the fact that they didn't put it in the right place to begin with...

Let us know how you're doing - your date is coming up soon!:bored:

And just because I can now say it...I'm down 50 pounds! Woo Hoo!

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
