Already fell off the wagon...

Recommended Posts

Hi guys! I got banded 10 days ago. I'm doing very well with losing, and have lost a lot of weight in just a week and a half. However, I caved today. I'm supposed to be on a soft food, high Protein, low carbs, low sugar diet, and I completely fell off the wagon. I ate almost a whole packet of maple and brown sugar instant oatmeal for Breakfast, huevos rancheros (minus the tortilla) for lunch, 3 bite size milky ways, 2/3 of a corn dog for dinner, and Tomato Soup with cheese crackers for my "second dinner"...and I still want to eat!!! I don't know what to do! I'm worried that I'm going to stretch my pouch and mess the whole thing up! Please help!

BTW, I am supposed to eat 6 times a day, but no more than 4 oz. at a time.

I too, was banded on the 24th. I haven't fallen off the wagon yet, but I feel myself going. It's hard but we must be strong. Stop eating now and start over with a new outlook. Not that you fell off the wagon but it's a new beginning, again. good luck. I know how you feel. Allison

Thanks, Allison. I went into the chat room after I posted this, and I received a lot of encouragement and good advice, much like yours. Thank God for this website!

I know every doc is different, what diet does yours have you on? What are you having a hard time with? You can always message me if you need someone to talk to.

Thanks for your kind words.

You guys aren't restricted yet. I know it is like preaching to the choir but really let your body heal. Stay to your Dr's regement liquids mushies whatever just let your body heal....you are going to be hungery this is normal!!! LET YOUR BODY HEAL dont feel like you went off the deep end unless your outside what your DR recommends at this stage!

I'm not really sure how to take your response...

I'm already aware that I need to let my body heal, which is why I feel awful about what I did today. I also know that I'm going to be hungry. Mostly, I know that I'm human and this won't be the last time I "F" up. If all of us were set in "self control department", none of us would have to have this surgery in the first place. Nor would we need a website that offers support and encouragement.

I think I know what she means. It means don't look at calories or fat. If you are on a liquid stick to liquid. If you are on a mushie stick to mushy. My doct just said to try and get my 60 gram of protien in and don't worry about the rest. Your body needs Protein to heal. Buit i understand where you are coming from bobina. "Sure I can stick to what he wants, but I can do it in a health way or an unhealthy way." We don't want to lose ground after joining the band.

Give me a P-R-O-T-E-I-N! :tongue::tongue::eek:

Ugh, I know just what you mean. I have a 3 year old also, and an 8 year old. I do feed them healthy meals, but it's just stuff that I can't have right now. Also, the fact the Halloween just passed hasn't helped matters! LOL! Anyway, today is much better--I got a hold of myself and I'm back on the plan!

I haven't fallen off the wagon yet, but I did have a literal crumb of chocolate the other night. My husband was eating a candy bar and I couldn't stand it. I figured it was better for me to just have a teensy taste and stop there than think about a Take 5 bar for days on end. I had my teensy taste and I was satisfied.

I wish I could have sent my 3 yr olds to grandma and grandpa's. One of my biggest problems, is not carrying them. My daughter is getting very upset that I'm carrying her like I usually do. And, that is hard for me too...

Good for you! Sometimes you need a little taste to satisfy the craving.

I know exactly how you feel. My son is too huge to carry all the time, but I do pick him up quite often, and it's been hard on both of us that I can't do it right now. It's also been difficult when carrying out discipline--normally, if he won't go into time out on his own, I'll carry him there. Also, tonight we went to the mall and he didn't want to leave--well, again, I would normally either pick him up or take his hand and pull him, but I had to find a whole new approach. It took some convincing, but he finally did what he was told!

Yes, the time out thing is hard, I too usually have to carry them to the spot, but can't right now. I'm lucky though that both my kids aren't big. My daughter is only 19 lbs, my son 25lbs. Hang in there, Allison

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
