Hey Everyone! I had my final consultation yesterday with my doctor and the nurse who went over everything with me in detail. My surgery is set for Tuesday, January 6th.

I had a great session with Nurse Amy - she was very upfront and honest in answering my questions. I went home and read all the materials she gave me - which reinforced what she told me during our session - and watched a video about the surgery. I feel like I'm ready - technically. And, I'm getting there emotionally, as well. I'm still battling the feelings that I'm admitting to defeat by not being able to conquer my weight problem without surgery - but, I'm getting over that as well.

My husband, who supports me in this, but still has concerns and worries asked me a question this morning that has really caused me to think and take an even closer look at myself. He asked me, "I know you've told me about how the band restricts the amount you eat. But, how does it help in regard to the fact that you are an emotional eater? You know that you don't always eat only when you're hungry! So, how is the band gonna help you work on that?"

I was taken aback at first. But, then I realized the band is again a tool. If I truly let the band do its job, it seems to me, if I eat too much at one time, I'm gonna get sick - it will come up. And, I hate to puke!! So, physically, unless I want to get sick - I can't eat too much at one time. BUT, eating again later - in other words, adding another meal - because I've come home pissed off at my boss - it really won't help with that, will it?? In other words, I may not be able to eat too much at one time, but what's to prevent me from eating another meal ?? In short, NOTHING - but my determination. SO, that's why the nurse and everything I've read has said the band by itself won't get me to my goal - I've got to modify my eating behavior and address those emotional issues!:sneaky:

And, I figure that's what this website is all about, too! Right?

Does anyone else worry about this?:tongue2:

Thanks, Sandy

I think as surgery gets closer we all wonder and worry somewhat. You are right that it will take a lot of determination to defeat the old habits we have. Being aware of the issues now will help you in the future. Maybe before you eat think of why you are eating and if you are eating for the right reason. Good luck on your journey. We are all here to support each other!!!!

I have to agree with you Blueeyesinca95 - we all are going through the same things with our thoughts as time is getting closer. That is why I joined this site so I can keep moving forward and the great support. Congrats everyone for there dates on getting banded.

This morning was my last nutritionist appointment....so all the paperwork is in to my advocate. She will be sending all to the insurance company for final approval. Then soon I should be getting my surgery date. I am excited and anxious at the same time. I will post my date as soon as I know it!

I am thinking good thoughts for all the December people and wish them the best.

I'm also a 2009 Bandster, February 9th. DH is being banded on Jan. 19th. Looking forward to the new year!! The only thing I have to before surgery is the pre-op testing and to start my liquid diet. Here's hoping I pass the pre-op testing.

Hi all

I thought I would be banded in the first week of the new year. But!!! I have to see my Surgeon on Jan 7 th, i believe that he will want to discuss my gallbladder; which i have stones. My Dr. may want to remove my gallbladder before he puts in the band. He has stated in at a group meeting that if you get a gastric bypass then he would remove the gallbladder then but if you get a lap band then it would have to be 2 separate surgeries. I am afraid of what he may suggest at our meeting. I have come this far and I still want the lap band!!! I know I not ready for the gastric bypass; just too much!!!

Good luck to you!!!

Kim

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
