What was your "Sweet Spot" when it came to fills?

Recommended Posts

I'm new and I'm just wondering...

How many fills did it take for you before you hit your sweet spot where the weight just seemed to come off easily and you felt great restriction?

You need to read the thread in the fill section that is written by Wendall Wdwards. It's called " How the lap band actually works fills and refills. The sweet spot will not last if you have not removed the fat pad around your stomach. Most people do get good restriction at about 3-4 fills, but it may not last.

I have not had a fill yet and I have lost 33 lbs since surgery on Aug 1st. I lost 20 lbs the first month and I have lost 13 lbs the 2nd month. I am scheduled for a fill tomorrow but I do not think he will do it cause I have lost 13 lbs this month. He said he is only looking for 3 to 5 lbs per month. We will see tomorrow. I still do not eat that much just with band restriction and I am not usually hungry between meals and those are the main things he asks. I hope I do not have to have any fills but I am sure I will at some point. I want to loose about 62 more lbs. Hope this helps.

I have had 2 fills and am at 6.5 cc's in my 10 cc band. I go for another fill today. I have lost 40 pounds so far, but am not yet at my sweet spot and am hoping to get a little closer today. I know it will take some tweeking as I lose, but it is going to be SO worth it!

Good luck!

Two fills of 1.8 cc's each in a 10 cc band. Both times the fill doctor tried to put in 3 cc's but the barium wouldnt go down with 3 cc's at a time for a fill. She was surprised and doubted it was a 10 cc band, so I had to get a letter from the surgeon signed for the 2nd fill.

I too never heard of only a 1.8 cc fill for the first fill in a 10 cc band.

I have some restriction, but would like a little more. Will wait a month or so for the next fill so maybe they can give me a little bigger fill, at least another 1.8 cc. For some reason they are needing to fill me slower it seems like than normal. I saw on the fluoro the first fill and she pointed out the barium just sitting there that wouldnt go down into my stomach with 3 cc's so she removed some of the fill.

Just have to be patient they tell me.

I had many, but I never reached the restriction many people decide where half a cup of food 3 times a day was right for me. I always ate more.

My weight came off pretty steadily, when it started to slow too much it was time for a little fill, but overall, it was slow and steady at a pound a week or a bit less.

Hi

I have had 2 fills, I'm at 5cc and have not got to that point yet. Getting a fill on Friday, hope to get there soon. Some say you just feel it when you are there, that 1 bite is okay and the next is too much. Hope we get there soon.

On Thursday it will be 1 year since I was banded. I have lost 75lbs but don't think I have ever found my "sweet spot" The most I ever lost in one month was 8 lbs. The rest has been 2-4 lbs per month. As far as eating half cup or a couple of bites that isn't happening to me, I still can eat more than I think I should be able to. I guess I just have to be thankful I have never had any trouble with my band and still have been able to lose weight. I still haven't reached my goal yet and don't know if I ever will, I am kinda depressed about it cause I am so afraid the weight will come back. I don't have any will power and it is a constant struggle

I just went in for my second fill and my sweet spot for now at least is 6.5cc in a 10cc band. I am one month post op so I am hoping that I will see much more weight come off. I am only down 12lbs total preop and surgery but I guess that is better than nothing. I hope that this is the magic number for me and I will be down at least 40lbs by Christmas but if Santa wants to bring more weight loss that is ok with me! :wink2:

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
