I Got My Surgery Date...Where Are The November Bandsters?

Recommended Posts

Hi all! Just to update you all. I had my surgery on Thursday (13th). Everything went perfectly. As planned I stayed overnight. Incision sites are not painful at all. But--I have had very bad gas pains since surgery. Other than that I am fine. Been sleeping alot and haven't really felt like doing much--but that's to be expected. My surgery was at 1:30 on Thursday and I was released after my Upper GI yesterday. I'm up and walking and the Tylenol 3 with codeine seems to help with the pain and to let me sleep. I also take the Gas X strips--those are definitely a must. I can say that the gas pains are much worse than I expected. I found a perfect description--remember when we were younger and we had to run the mile in gym class --that sharp pain under your rib when you were totally winded and couldn't do anymore? That's the pain...same place. There as well as in my shoulders. But--lots of walking helps. I finally started moving some "gas"...I won't be any more explicit... and that seems to be helping most of all! I hope all are doing well and good luck to us all on our new life journey.

Hello fellow bandster,

I was banded in Jacksonville, Florida on Thursday, Nov. 13. I am doing pretty well. I am sore a little, and don't have any appetite. It's hard to swallow Water due to gas pains, and I am regaining my energy. But I am so glad I made these steps to improve my health.

Blessings on your path to wellness.

Good luck to you! I also had my surgery on Thursday. I was banded at 10:30. For the most part, I am fine. Just a little sore, and just as you dealing with the gas pains. "No pain, no gain". Wouldn't take nothing for the changes that are happening. I lost almost 20 lbs. following the presurgery diet, and am looking forward to losing the rest.

God Bless you on your journey!

Hi November Bansters,

I have my date as Nov. 24th! I can't wait. The two week liquid protien diet is tough, but by using this site I am so motivated that the difficulty dissapears. I hope all of you who are before me post your experiences after your procedures. I am very curious as to how much you were able to move around and your pain levels.

Best wishes to all of you

Thanks for the message. It's good to know what to look forward to. I have surgery on the 19th. Having trouble sleeping. Hungry on the pre surgical diet. That's ok.

My surgery is scheduled bright and early (7:30 a.m.) tomorrow morning. I have to be there at 5:30--yuck!--but it will be worth it! So glad this is the last day of this pre-op clear liquid diet and that tomorrow I finally get my band. Here's hoping all of us yet to be banded have safe surgeries with no complications!

Hey, Everybody! I hope everyone is feeling great, no matter how many hunger and/or gas pains they are experiencing.

I'll be banded on the 24th and I'm wondering what shape I may be in three days later on Thanksgiving. (I know everyone is different.) I can deal with not going anywhere that day, but on Friday night there is a service at my church that I really don't want to miss! I guess if I can manage to ride home from the hospital, I can handle riding to church. From what people say, I don't think it will be too bad. I'm planning on doing lots of walking since it sounds like that is the ticket to reducing the gas pains as much as possible.

My surgery date is in two days on Tuesday Nov 18th !!

My doctor/nutritionist's pre-surgery diet is 1200 calories a day of balanced nutritrion consumed any way for 12 days and then 2 days of 4 Protein Shakes and a 1/2 cup of other stuff for five servings per day (applesauce SF, pudding SF, yogurt SF, etc). I had 1/2 c malt-o-meal for Breakfast - suprisingly it was great and reminded me of being a young girl .... and had me thinking of looking forward to moving toward the weight in lbs of that young girl !!

I used "seattle sutton" (Seattle Sutton's Healthy Eating) for the 12 days of 1200 calories. It was good, fresh, prepared food with little work or thought to follow and stick with. No hunger at all. I've lost 8 pounds in 12 days on it. I've ordered Unjury for Protein shakes (choc, vanilla, strawberry). I've also purchased a "bullet" to prepare for the post-op mushies phase.

I am SO excited! and I keep reading all I can on the board to learn from others experiences. Thanks to you all for posting

I have found lots of individual flavors in The Vitamin Shoppe. They have a lot of different brands. One of the best I've found is the brand Jay Robb. Unfortunately it's really expensive, so I didn't buy anything bigger than a few individual flavors.

My husband (who is big into weight lifting and body building) swears by the Optimum Nutrition brand, and we've got the vanilla Ice Cream, Rocky Road, and strawberry flavors. They are 120cals and 25g Protein per serving. :wink2:

Thanks so much for these suggestions! I will try these flavors. I appreciate your help!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
