Uncomfortable feeling in chest

Recommended Posts

Smashing Pumpkins,

Good luck at work. Take it easy. I'm so fortunate that I decided to do this between jobs. So I can move it slowly. You will love the mushies. I have sugar-free Jello double chocolate pudding, straberry yoqurt, applesauce, oatmeal, scrambled eggs, I great variety. Just take it slow when you start. Small bites over a long period. It usually takes me most of the day to eat one pudding. It's my taste refresher. My back is a little better today, but it seems to alternate days. I willl be very happy when the back is back in shape. Your doing great!!!

My son and his family live in Tampa. Maybe we can have a Tampa get together sometime!

Hi everyone, I was banded Oct 8th. I am still feeling the gas pain. I am walking around alot but the co2 gas is stuck in my sholders and doesn't seem to want to leave me alone. I know I have to give it more time yet though. I can burp and it is such a releif when I do but does pain a bit also when I do it. When I feel it going to happen I just stop moving and lean forward a bit and then it's fine. Any idea when this co2 pain will go away?

Thank God for you all feeling the same - I thought it was me doing something wrong! I was banded on 3.Oct - so just a week ago tomorrow, I can take fluids ok, but then have terrible gas pains in my left shoulder, the port are under my left boob is very hard and sore - the only way I can lie comfortably is on my back. I seem to swing from having a grumbling tummy and feeling really hungry to having a small drink then feeling sick, bloated and "farty" . Im sure it'll go off given time and keep thinking Ive waited so long for this and finally I will lose the weight so it must be worth it!

this is my first post since being banded tuesday oct 7th. after surgery i felt so good and was so confident that i had made it then on the day after and yesterday i was in total pain from the gas! you would think if they could pump it in they could pump it out. its horrible! :) i walk around my pool 15 times every hour and then barely get a tiny burp. and honestly i would rather it go south because it doesn't hurt when you do it that way.

i had voiced a concern to someone about the pain meds and so far i've only taken 7 doses in 3.5 days. even though i never had a problem with hydrocodone before this time it has made me throw up (maybe b/c of empty stomach). i decided to go with children's tylenol and have been okay since. i did take the hydrocodone last night after having a cup of Soup and didn't feel bad.

post op appt is tuesday the 14th so i hope everything is good. congrats to everyone who had surgery this week!!!

Hong in there you recently banded ... the shoulder pain is awful... it does pass believe it or not and then on to different struggles. :) But if we all remember to help and support each other, and remember we did this for a reason, we'll get through it. I'm feeling lots better. Banded 11 days ago, have forgotten about the horrible gas pains, now just trying to think about eating cuz I'm getting hungry.... Good luck!!! Walking even very slowly does help.

I agree - it does finally get better. The back/shoulder pain is gone and I hope it never returns. It is getting easier. I'm starting to get hungry occassionally. They say todrink Water when I get hungry. I won't have a fill for 2 more weeks. Good Luck to everyone. Hang in there. I'm going to look for recipes for when I get off the mushies.

Glad to know that I'm not the only one going through this. I was banded on October 1st and I am still having terrible pain in my chest. It almost feels like a heart attack it is so bad. I've been taking nexium, gas x, drinking hot tea and walking. I can't burp at all. My shoulder finally eased up a few days ago but the only time my chest eases is when I lie down. I go back to Dr. today for exrays to make sure everything is alright. I can't eat or drink much for the pain. I haven't had a fill yet either. I'm only eating creamy Soups and pudding (Ocassionally) Is this normal to hurt so much 14 days post surgery? I'm at wits end. I need relief.

I am sure that there are going to be people that don't agree with me, but gas x strips did nothing for me. I did the strips, the pills, and also another brand's extra strength gas medicine. None of that worked. The only thing that worked was walking, walking, walking.

Gas X strips did not help me either. In desperation one night I chewed about 6 Rolaids but they were of no help either. It's been 2 weeks today that I was banded and while 90% of the gas is now gone, I do get some gas pain in my chest area occasionally.

I am 7 wks post-op and it does get better but I didn't think I was ever going to get relief from the chest pressure. This is what I have noticed so I am passing it on in hopes it will help someone. I have not yet PB'd (keeping my fingers crossed) but I can tell if I haven't chewed something well enough or if a food just isn't going to agree w/me. However, it doesn't happen until afterward and then I know I'm going to be tight miserable and uncomfortable for a few days. The papaya enzymes sometimes help and something cold also works. Breyers whole fruit bars are delicious w/only 45 calories. The hot tea/water doesn't seem to give me any relief. My theory is when I've eaten something that my body didn't agree with the body will react w/some slight swelling in the esophagus causing the miserable feeling. However, this usually will subside w/in a few days. Good luck! It just takes time to learn how to eat again.:rolleyes2:

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
