Mississippi Bandsters!

Recommended Posts

Sorry I have not posted lately, I'm still waiting for Medicare to approve the CMMC hospital in Jackson, MS. I'm going to a Lapband support group on Dec. 11th. My 1st. one at this hospital, maybe I'll find out something than.

Glad to hear other people are doing good. I'll make it yet.

I'm 65 and I am trying to have it done.

I went to a Gastric Bypass & Banding support group meeting at CMMC in Jackson, MS on 12-11-2007. I'm waiting on the Medicare "Seal of Excelents" for CMMC. They said it should be any day now. Other than that, nothing new. faint.gif

I'm looking at Dr. Avera. Were you happy? How many bands has he done?

If your asking me about CMMC, I don't know of a Dr. Avera at CMMC. The only Doc's I know of there doing Bypass or Banding is Dr. Cleveland & Dr. Cummins

Hi there...I have been mising in action for maybe 3 months. Trust me I have not fell off of the plan. I am going strong and the weight loss has slowed a bit--but with 54 pounds gone--I am one of the happiest people around...

So I am here and I hope to offer some more input as the time goes on...

I Will Be Self Pay, And Have Not Had Much Support From Friends Or Family. I Dont Want To Hear All The I Told Ya So's If For Some Reason I Dont Lose All My Weight Or If It Has To Be Taken Out And You Know All That Crap. Guess I Am Making Excuses But, I Just Dont Know What To Do. I Know I Am Sick Of Being Fat.

Hi DOCOP,

If you read back a page or two on this thread you will see what I'm going through & I might have mensioned the price.

I'm doing to call CMMC to see when the next seminar is or the support group meeting is and go to it.

The cost for the Gastric Banding (Lapband) is about $16,200.00. I'm not sure all that is included but you will find out at the semenar. I have been to two semenars & really learned a lot. I'm waiting for the hospitol to be "OK'd" by Medicare, watch should be any day now. I can't afford self pay myself.

My name is Don, maybe I'll see you there.

I really like the two Doc's there, they are straight forward and don't beat around the bush in what they tell you. I am going to have it done, but it gets frustraiting waiting for the OK from Medicare.

PS: Have you gone to Welcome to LAP-BAND.com . It's a very good site to learn about what's involved, but you learn much more at the seminar.

i have looked at it, but it seems that there are variations to what each facility and doctor provides or requires. I have considered dr. avery in pascagoula but its a little too far. i can be in jackson in 45 min. Dr Cleveland and his partner is who i have decided to use. i still dont know much about him but am looking forward to the seminar. thanks for your reply.

I was banded on 11/26 by Dr. Byars at Baptist in Oxford, Ms. I started at 315 about 5 weeks ago and this morining weighed 290. I realize that the band is a tool and am excited about having it to aide me in my weight loss.

Hey everyone! I am in the process of moving to Oxford. I was banded there by Dr. Byars in August. I guess my signature says it all! Nice to see fellow Mississippians on here!

Sorry to say. No word about Medicare yet.

I went to the latest support group on 01-08-2008 an it was the same ans. "any day now". There might about 200plus people waiting for the "OK". Not sure were I stand on the list. The support group meets every 2nd Tuesday of the month at 7:00 PM. (1900 Hrs.).

I think this is why they call us "PATIENTS".

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
