Hey SmashingPumpkins... how is everyone doing?? I am fantastic.. I have been enjoying life so much since surgery I find myself not having much time for the computer and I am so sorry I have not checked in.. I hope everyone is doing well and being successful.. This journey is very challenging and rewarding.. There are ups and downs, but in the long run it has been one of the most fantastic decisions I have ever made for myself..

I am very close to reaching my first goal of losing 100lbs.. WOO HOO.. I am truly hoping I reach and surpass that goal this week.. I was so excited when I stepped on the scale and saw I was at 98lbs lost.. I really am not sure what I will do when I hit 100 lost.. once I hit that my next goals is to get below 300lbs for the first time in I DONT HAVE A CLUE WHEN.. ha ha.. But it is nice to know that day will be here sooner then later..

I just wanted to share some exciting things My hubby and I have been up to since surgery. We have become annual pass holders to all the Disney parks and Water parks.. We spend EVERY weekend living life up to its fullest.. Usually a day at the beach or a Water park or a theme park.. Typically we try to involve water because it is soooooo hot in Florida ha ha.. We also went tubing down the Rainbow River.. Floating for 5 hours was a bit long, but it was so beautiful.. We snorkeled and saw many beautiful things it was pretty awesome and I look forward to going back.

We are both in school and our college offers a scuba certification so we have decided to become scuba certified with some friends this fall so we can go down to the Caribbean next summer.

I can tell you this is just amazing to me because it is the first time i have had a tan in like 10 years.. before this surgery I would have spent my weekends probably on my butt at a family members house.. and not that I don't love spending time with my family, but I LOVE being this active and so I keep making all my family join me when possible.. which benefits us all.. We are all being active and all being happy which relieves stress and adds years to your life.. It is fantastic..

Well thanks for listening to me babble.. I just wanted to share to great things and hope to hear some others from my fellow pumpkins

take care and best wishes..

Me Schultz! Wow that is fantastic! I am so proud of you. Thanks for sharing how much your life has changed. The weight loss does make us feel good about being active. Sitting and vegging just does not do it anymore.

I am doing well too and I stopped hiding every time i see a camera. Summer is going to be so much more fun than it has been. I even bought a swimming suit. I have not had an occasion to wear it yet but I will.

Please write back and let us know when you make your 100 lb. goal. I am sure it will be very soon!

wtg nrpnrp you are almost at maintenance that is so terrific.

Thanks...actually I have been at goal for about 6 weeks. So far I have lost a little more...about 2 pounds...so far maintenance is fine...I have regained many many times after losing so I am still a little insecure. This just has to be permanent.

HI Everyone! Just checking in to see how everyone is doing and I am so happy for you all!! Sorry I have been away from the site but I promise to try and be better about it. I was banded on Oct 30, 2008 and to date have lost 56 pounds! I went from a size 18 pants to a size 12! I gave away all of my FAT clothes and finally did some shopping yesterday. For the first time in years I actually had a good time!

My band is still tight from my last fill and I seemed to have hit a plateu I am not losing anymore (4 weeks now) but then I am not exercising either so maybe that is my problem? haha

I did promise myself to start swimming to get some exercise this summer. ugh I hate that word exercise...but i am only 28 pounds away from my goal so maybe I better get off my butt and do something before I become all flabby... LOL

It is great to see you all doing so well, I know you must be thrilled. RNARP 2 pounds below your goal and I forget whose blog I read that said they lost 98 pounds... I WAS BLOWN AWAY when I read that.

Keep up the good work and take care all...:grouphug:

Hi everyone,

I made it back.

There's Good news & there's Good news.

I have not been losing for the past 2-3 weeks but have been losing "inches", but have started losing again. Even better news is I am now OFF all my blood pressure meds AND all my Diabetic meds, also cut my cholesterol meds in half. I have my next appt with my family Doc in Sept and "might" be able to get off the rest of my meds. It sure is strange to get up in the morning and all I have to take is my Vitamins, etc.

I’m now down 47 lbs. I see my post op-Doc (Dr. Low) on June 30th. I’m not sure if she will give me a fill or not. Well see.

I see everyone is doing very good.

Keep up the good work,

Don

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
