It's possible to gain weight, but I don' t think there is need to panic. Sometimes it's just Water weight, or maybe to much sugar at the holiday. Talk to your doctor about an ajustment so that you are less hungry and review your food journal to be certain that you are eating the right foods in the right amounts. I know of people who have gained weight and went on to loss again. Keep in touch and let us know how things turn out. Good luck and take care, Karen

Thank you Karen. I needed that encouragement and will take your suggestions.

Hi everyone,

It's been so long sense I have been on here, over three months. I have not lost any weight in those three months but this last fill I think will do the trick. I'm at about 6.1 cc's now and it really feels tight, but not too tight. I'm really happy where it is right now.

This coming Tuesday the 12th. I'm doing to go and do some bowling, Than go see the movie AVATAR in 3D, than go to my support group meetings that night. It's going to be a very busy day.

I hope to be on here more often now.

Don

Hi everyone:

Good to hear from you Don.

I am healing well from my bladder surgery and go back to work Monday morning. I am so ready to get out of the house! I don't honestly know if I am thrilled to go back to work, as I have been off for three weeks and will be swamped. I was able to drive on Wednesday to go for my bladder surgery follow up, but then we had a snow storm and the roads were a mess so I was not comfortable going out alone driving. Looks like the weather is clearing up today (Saturday) so maybe I can get out for a while.

I hope this doesn't sound like I am bragging, but I am so proud that I was asked to model in a fashion show my Lap Band Surgeon puts on to show sucess stories. They also use photos of those selected for posters advertising the Restart Center Weight Loss Program at Methodist Hospital in Merrillville, IN. The fashion show is April 10th at a banquet center in town. I would never in a million years imagined doing this 18 months ago at a BMI of 53 and weight of 322 pounds.

My only worry is that I can't exercise due to my surgery until the end of February. So, I am going to have to be extra careful with my eating and try to find places to walk safely indoors in the mean time.

Take care everyone,

Karen

Wow! You're doing GREAT! Congrats on the fashion show invite! What an honor!!

You are near the university, right? DS#1 is in the Navy and was stationed at Crane for several years. DIL loved it.... lots of wildlife on base and SNOW every winter, which she LOVES! Now they're near San Francisco and she misses winter!

Congrats, Karen, I hold you and Phyl up as examples to follow.

I am finally below 190. It may have been because I was sick and didn't eat on Thursday. But, I consider anything as a plus!

Karen, you aught to be proud of being asked to be in a show. Wow, I would love for my Dr to ask me when I loose my weight. He and about 1/2 his office have gone through Lapband surgery. They are there own models.

Winter is highly overrated! I am in Florida, I moved because I didn't like cold, ice and snow. We might get all 3 this weekend. :)

Phyl I am in Schererville, In, not near any major university. There are regional campus of Purdue and Indiana Unversity here, but not all that near to my house.

Okay. Someone on one of the threads lives in Bloomington, I think, near the University of Indiana. I thought it was you. We visited Indiana quite a few times when our son was stationed there. I didn't realize what a beautiful state it is! Love the little towns!

Here is a "progress" picture taken this past weekend. The other picture was taken a little over 5 yrs ago.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
