Just adding my two cents- I also have arthritis in my knees & need replacements. I got a recumbent bike like they use when you have PT. It is so easy on the back and knees. I put a book on tape in and plug in the earphones and the time flies. I got this one off Craig's list. It is a very good durable one that was originally over $1000, we got it for $200.00.

My laugh of the day. Thanks for the suggestion. :frown:

Bought my husband a bike last summer and he couldn't stand the seat either... even though he has a skinny butt. So I found a wide seat on Amazon.com and he loves it. I think it was 20 bucks. Before it came he had a huge piece of foam wrapped around the seat and secured to it with DUCT TAPE!! Of course, what else! He's a guy!

Hey... guess what?? They sell those "comfort" seats at Target for about $20. They have three different styles including the really wide one I got my husband.

Oh... my!! I bought two jackets today... one jeans jacket, one mandarin style dressy jacket... tried 18/20 and my friend and the sales clerk both shook their heads and said "TOO BIG"! So they brought me 14/16 in each. They fit!! I said "NO WAY!" So I bought both of them!!

WOW!!! Phyll, that is fantastic!! Hopefully someday I will be able to get in to a 14/16 also!!

Didn't make it all the way to New Mexico. We spent a week in Oklahome so DH could attend a woodcarving seminar. Had a ball, but noticed that I was getting really, really, hungry and since I had only had one fill, we decided to come back home and get me a fill. It was only my second one, and the surgeon wanted to try putting in 2cc. Well, I had a terrible pain in my chest and so he took out 1.5cc's. I go back to see him on Tuesday and if I am doing well, he will give me another fill at a smaller amount. Wish me luck.

So we will be heading out on vacation a bit later. Probably after Christmas. Will try to make it to southern NM or southern AZ. Don't think we will make it to CA this year, but hope you have a grand time there.

I am so happy for you being able to get to go shopping and find out that you have "shrunk" some more!!! Way to go!!

Phyl, How wonderful. I'm just excited when I go shopping in my "closet" and some of my thinner clothes fit. Woo Hoo.

Congratulations. How exciting. As for me, I am saddled with huge bat wings and I mean huge. Doctors won't do PS until I reach goal so all my tops are sloppy fitting because I can't fit the arms. Grrrrrrrr!!!

Hi Jersey Girl, I was noticing your post on your fills, and I have a question, was your first fill 5cc? wow if so your Dr. really tightened you up fast, my Dr. started out with 1cc and I had to go back in 5 weeks for another and so on. Its funny how differant Dr.s do differant things. It looks like you are doing great.

Bradley, Yes my first fill was 5cc. Everyone I told thought it was a bit much, but I felt fine. I then waited 6 weeks & called for my next fill. They said I should have called them same day and their next opening was in August. I went but he said I was still losing so he wouldn't adjust me. Then last week I went and he gave me .5. I think I'm doing good.

Welcome and feel free to ask your questions no matter how trivial you may think they are. Wishing you a great successful journey. As for the fill, I had 5. ccs and then went to 5.5 ccs 5.75 ccs. Found I was too tight at 5.75 went down to 5.5 and have been that way for a few years. You will find your sweet spot also but take your time finding it.

Hi Everyone

Went to the doc yesterday for my monthly check-up and only lost 1.5 pounds. I was a bit disappointed with myself, as I am getting so close to my goal and was previously losing more each month. They were still happy that I was losing and not gaining. It was a tough month to stick to my regiment with all the stuff isnvoled with moving my Mother to the Senior Living Center, and I know I let thing slip more than a few times. I guess I just have to re-group and try to do better now that things will be getting back to normal (hopefully). I hope everyone else in doing well.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
