You're doing GREAT, Don! Can see a big difference in your profile picture. I want to hit "ONEDERLAND" by the end of the year, too. How about a challenge!!?? How's your wife doing?

PS: My wife is still not losing weight and her health is not getting any better. I don't think she wants to have the surgery but not sure. I'm going to ask her again soon. Hard to get an answer out of her sometimes.

She turns 65 in Dec, so her surgery, with the insurance we have, it would not cost us anything.

Thank you for asking.

Don

Hi everyone,

Just had my 3rd fill (0.5cc's; total 3.5) and have finally started losing again. My Doc said I lost 4 lbs since last time. I did not think I even lost that much. I'm going to try to to get below 200 lbs, that's 17 or more lbs by the end of the year. It sure would be nice to get rid of that 200 number.

Glad to see everyone it doing well. Pre-op people, your time will come. I did not think my time would ever get here, now I'm 10 months out. Hard to believe. until next to me to all us losers, that's a good word here, Don

Doing good, Don. I have about 8 lb to go to get under 200. I had knee replacement surgery last week, so should be able to ramp up my exercise when I get through this rehab process!

Hi don, glad you are doing well. I am slow going right now. Banded Dec 18 08 and have lost 43lbs. I think I need a 4th fill, but I am going to be RV traveling Oct 1 for a month or more. Don't know if it is smart getting a fill before doing so much traveling. Keep up the good work.

Don, congrats on your progress. I admire the way you keep on keeping on! I am hopeful I can follow your example.

Phyl, I have several friends who have had the knee replacement surgery and they are all doing fine. One even went out dancing sooner than every one thought he should have, but hey he's still dancing!

Pioneer, I am getting my first fill Tuesday am getting curious about when my surgeon will schedule the next one.I too am going to be on a RV trip for most of October. Like you I am concerned about getting a fill right before leaving town! Guess we will find out if it is o.k. or not. :)

Hi Everyone,

I was banded 2 days ago at HAT and feel wonderful. Walked about Cabrillo National Park and the beautiful tide pools today. Tomorrow the SD Zoo. Too early to report a weight loss but it won't be long. I'm learning to appreciate chicken broth.

Hi Diana, Where are you going in Oct? We will be picking up our new TT in Indiana and heading West.So far we are scheduled to go to Yellowstone, but might go up to Seattle also. Depends on weather. I have had trouble in the past with fills and being able to get fluids down properly. Mostly due to excessive mucus due to sinus problems. Not sure what to do, so I guess I will just talk with the Dr Sept 18.

Good morning Pioneer and congrats on your new TT! I know you will enjoy your trip in it.

We are first going to Oklahoma so my DH can attend a woodcarving class. Then we are headed to New Mexico, probably to the Silver City area in the SW part of the state. We lived in NM when we were first married. My DH was a park ranger with the National Park Service and we lived in the west for most of his career. Still have to go back to get our "fix" every so often.

I know you will really enjoy Yellowstone as well as other sights along your path. Hope you do take the time to go on up to Seattle. What a trip you will have:thumbup:. Take lots of pics and enjoy lots of sunsets!!!

Good luck to both of us getting "filled". This is my first time, so I am feeling that I am really and truly starting my weight loss journey now. Hope yours goes smoothly.

Keep us posted on how much fun you are having on your trip!!!!

Hey... we are RVers, too. But we leave for the whole winter. We're in the Seattle area (condo), but will be leaving for southern CA where we'll spend the winter in Desert Hot Springs, as soon as the ortho surgeon releases me.

Hey, Sharon, I hope you enjoyed the trip to the SD zoo. I have heard it is a great one. I also envy you getting to walk around Cabrillo National Park and exploring the tide pools, etc. Hope the chicken broth isn't getting too boring! I like to use the Wylers beef granules, for a change.

Phyl, I think I have come up with an excellent plan! When Pioneer and I head west, they can park their TT next to us in a campground in New Mexico, and when the ortho frees you up, ya'll can head to CA via New Mexico(It's a short cut:wink2:) and camp on the other side of our rig for a few days. Then Pioneer can head on to Yellowstone and Seattle (too bad you will miss seeing Phyl there, she could have given you a guided tour). Phyl, after you have rested in the cool Mtn. breezes of NM, you will then be ready to face the hot desert winds of southern CA!

I love it when a plan comes together!!

Pioneer,I forgot to tell you that we lived in GA for a while. We lived in Marietta while my husband was stationed at Kennesaw Mtn. National Battlefield Park. We actually lived in an old log house that had been built in 1836. It was modern on the inside! We lived there in1970 when our youngest son was born. Sure was a nice area.

This is so weird. I was banded 12-17-08 and have also lost 43 lbs. Make me feel like I am not alone and that we have more loss to look forward to. Thanks for your post.

LOL!! Wow! What a great plan!! My recovery/rehab is going quite well, I think! PT guy graduated me from walker to cane today (only about 2 weeks after he managed to get me a brand new walker with 4 wheels, brakes and a seat!). Oh, well... I'll have it for the next knee!! And I bent my knee to 113 degrees for him which made him happy. I'd been stuck at 97 last week and only made it to 100 on Monday, so I was quite excited to make 113 today! He says he's going to release me to outpatient PT next Monday. There is a good facility I can go to just about a block away, so that will be very convenient. DH is getting VERY anxious to head south!

Congratulations Phyl! :)

That is quite an accomplishment after lots of hard work. Sounds like you have been blessed with a gem of a physical therapist.

Wow! You are doing great Phyl. You are going to be able to take a walk in those New Mexico mtns on your way to sunny California!:)!! Seriously, I am glad you are doing so well and that you will soon be on your way south for the winter. We plan to get to NM in Oct. but will only get to stay a couple of weeks. I have a fill scheduled for when we get back. I will be a couple of weeks late on it. If I get really hungry before the trip, my surgeon said he would put in a small fill before I leave. Will just play it by ear!

Keep up the good work with your knee and let us know when you are ready to hit the road!

Where is everyone? I haven't seen a post here for more than a week. The weather is beautiful here in Northwest Indiana. Just came in from a walk, and couldn't help thinking about how nice it is to be able to go for a walk on such a nice day since I lost the weight. I have been busy trying to find a Independent Living place for my Mother who is 85 years old and fell in the tub. She could not get out until I checked on her four hours later. It's been a stressful time, but I can't let the stress get me off track. I know we are doing the right thing, but it sure takes alot of doing. That's why I went fo the walk. Walking helps me to get my thoughts together. Hope everyone is well.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
