Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Recommended Posts

I don't think it's prudent to do situps too soon after surgery but once you are well out have never heard it's bad. I do 200 crunches every other day, never had a problem. When I think situps I think the old fashioned lie down on the floor and sit up and touch your toes. What I do they call a crunch and you lie down and focus on a spot on the ceiling and bend your knees and then just crunch up part way. I do 10 different variations of that for 20X each on my Power 90 DVD

200!!! No wonder you are losing so much better than me. I am trying to do 30 a day, a few times I skipped too many days so did 40. Yikes. Yes, I was talking about old fashioned sit ups. I didnt know no one does them any more. New to me.

I was on another board for something completely different and someone typed this. I tend to sometimes think well if I got other WLS surgery I would be to goal already. Made me stop and think, at least Im eating more healthy, even if my weight loss has run into a brick wall and stopped.

Xxx got diagnosed last week with Osteoporosis in her L hip and Osteopenia in her R hip......She took her 1st once a month dose of Actonel, but had to spend the day in bed yesterday her bones and joints hurt so much..........This apparently all happened because she is severly Vitamin D deficient since gastric bypass surgery messed up her ability to absorb nutrients.........

Good Morning,

Well it's morning over here. 5.40am to be exact.

My daughter should be here any tick of the clock to take me to the hospital. I'd give anything for a cold drink of Water.

Not a good day or night yesterday. Had an arguement with my mother and my youngest daughter and am still angry about it. Don't need it right now. STRESS!!!! Vomited 4 times through the night and only fell asleep at 2.30am. Don't care what happens anymore. What's that old saying? Kea Serra, serra or whatever.

Thankyou all for your best wishes and prayers and most of all your friendship. My real name is HELENE.

I had my band on 28 Janauary 09 and have lost 12kg and had my first fill last week. It has been 5 days since fill and still feeling hungry. I am due to go back at end of month. However I have not lost any further weight which is disapointing. My surgeon told me this is normal and the band needs adjusting. Bit of a downer as was going along merrily and then came to a sudden halt.

However Dr said not to feel guilty as this is all normal and we keep on working on the fills until we get the right combination. He does not want to give me a quick fix as this leads to all sorts of complications.

Fingers crossed this fill or the next will kick start as I have my eye on a nice little black number at my favourite shop

I have a question for anybody who can help. I was banded 12-15-08 and in the first four to six weeks I lost about 15 pounds. I did feel I needed a fill because I felt no restriction after the swelling of the surgery went down. I had a fill on February 13th which helped for a few days, then I was feeling no restriction again. Consequently I went last week and had a third fill. The doctor was surprised that when he looked at the fluroscopy because the first fill had been generous and I didn't show much restriction. He briefly mentioned sometimes they leak ~ which totally freaks me out. I guess I felt restriction but now I am wondering if that is what I am feeling. The only thing I feel is like when I swallow the bites are too big, which they aren't, and I can feel them going down, which I am now wondering if I am feeling stuff go through the banded area? Is that what "restriction" feels like?? I need to get this figured out because I feel I am just wasting my time as I have only lost 16 pounds so far! Thanks for listening, I hope to hear from some of you about my question.

Cher: Be patient, you body is adjusting to all kinds of new things and life style changes. I feel restriction for the first few days and then all of a sudden i don't feel much restriction. As you lose weight your band will losen up as the layer of fat around your stomach disappears. just be sure you are eating hard Protein first and foremost. I find I lose more weight when I get my Protein in daily. Good luck with your journey. Hang out here with us and you will learn alot and be helped along your journey.

Cher, my suggestion would be to go to the section on this board on fills. There is a very good post written by wendall edwards. It should be easy to find. It's called How the band works, fills and refills or something like that. It's very informative.

Some of us lose much slower than others. Some people take many fills to get restriction. Restriction feels like

you are full on a small amount of food. You can tell you're full. You feel like if you eat another bite , you'll throw up.

That is not to be confused with food getting stuck. Food gets stuck if it's too big of a bite and you don't chew well enough. It does not go through the band. What it's doing is plugging up the band.

Yes, it's completely normal, and very important to sneak up on that sweet spot. Do your best, stick to the rules as well as you can, and muster up more patience than you may ever have needed in your life. If you need to eat more, best to do it in smaller amounts more often than to stretch your pouch with a larger meal.

You have had that tantalizing experience of what the band can do, it's like a promise for the future. You are building the foundation for that now. Hang in there and keep the faith!

Ditto what Orea and Oregon Daisy said. My doctor also told me the same thing about fills - when I get to the right place the restriction will be there, even after the swelling from the fill goes down (which is why you are feeling less restriction after a few days - that swelling has gone down). I had my 3rd fill a week ago today, and I am still feeling good restriction, so I think this one is going to "take" better, at least for the time being. We are all DIFFERENT - and it takes more fills for some people than for others. But you are building your foundation, you have to be patient with yourself and with your band. Eat your Protein first - measure your food, particularly if you don't feel a lot of restriction. After you have finished your measured amount, WAIT a few minutes before you reach out for more. I found if I did this I was actually satisfied on much less food than I thought I would be - even tho I did not have good restriction for those weeks. Banded people don't necessarily lose weight fast. Go for that steady, slower loss that will be easier to maintain. It's still going to come off - you took a long time putting it there, give it some time to come off. It will be better for your body, your skin, your overall health. Above all, be patient and loving with yourself... You deserve it. (and that little black dress - or one even cuter - will be there when you are done!)

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
