Hey Lori - cute picture, but the thumbnail was so small I could hardly see you. I could tell you look happy, though. Are you getting past the issues you had after your folks left? I think playing with your daughter makes you happy. Playing with my daughter always give me a lift, too.

Joann, if you click on the picture it should enlarge, at least it does for me. And, yes, I think I am getting past the issues and getting back to normal. I actually think I faced the issues and dealt with them more this time instead of stuffing them down with food, so hopefully next time I will be even stronger. And a little retail therapy never hurts!! ha ha

Woke up today and stepped on the MM (metal monster aka scale) and was down one!! I'm into the 220's and at 76!! YAHOO!!

deedee, I have never had a fill take awhile to kick in. I can tell the next day how it's going to be. If you're not having trouble with bread, but you did with the pork chop, you probably took too big of a bite. We are supposed to cut our meat into eraser sized bites and chew it up until it's liquid in our mouths.

I haven't had a fill in almost a year, so I don't have those problems anymore. I can eat anything I want without any trouble. I could use a fill, but I don't want any acid reflux problems so I just continue to eat

small meals.

Thanks for that feedback. I guess I just absent mindedly took too big of a bite. But when I got the fill I really didn't feel any restriction at all and still don't - other than that episode I have been fine. As for the quantity of food I can eat it's more than I expected to be able to do.

You can be sure I will be much more careful in the future I didn't like that feeling at all.

Thanks again

Sandi

Today I got my 3rd fill. I now have 7 cc's in a 10 cc band. I have been starving all day. Was suppose to stay on liquids but I haven't been able to. I had some yogurt, peanut butter/crackers, Tomato Soup. Should I be feeling this hunger after a fill. Seems to me like 7cc's is a lot. I'm confused

Janet, it's good to have you back. We have all missed you.

I feel like we are all back together now. I hope you are getting along okay. I lost my big brother to cancer last year, and his daughter to cancer in early August this year. It's a tough time...

janet I am so glad to see you back. You have been in my prayers.

I don't know about the 7 cc's. My band only holds 4 ccs's . I got to my sweet spot at just under 3 cc's. So maybe they have to be almost full?

I bet I have no saline left. My surgeon says it "disapates" after awhile. Whatever that means. I can eat anything I want without any trouble. It's so nice never to get food stuck anymore. I just hope I can maintain without getting a fill. I don't feel like shelling out $160.00

and it's so nice to be able to take my medication without trouble now.

Good luck to all of our new bandsters. nothing better than being on the bandwagon.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
