Recommended Posts

On the drive to surgery now. At this point, I just want to get it done. Dropped 45 pounds as of today... now I'm ready for new milestones in my life...

Good luck to everyone! See you on the other side (of the surgery 😀)

I had Surgery the 5 th . Gastric Bypass with Hiatal Hernia repair. I also struggle with having energy ( when I first wake up) then I start doing normal things like laundry and then I am drained. I hope this gets better, I would like to start exercising more

I had sleeve surgery in southern Indiana on 04/18 (7 Days ago.) I started walking as soon as I got to my overnight room because I had terrible gas pain when I came out of anesthesia. That helped a lot! I haven't had any unbearable pain since and I also haven't had to take any of the pain meds that were prescribed!

I guess right now I'm feeling a bit of anxiety about the full liquid diet.... Like, am I doing it right? I'm distributing the Protein Shakes throughout the day to get to 60 grams of Protein, and mid-day I eat an Oikos Triple Zero Greek yogurt with 15 grams of protein - this gets me to the 75 grams of protein mark. I sip one 28 ounce Gatorade Zero throughout the day and I'm trying to get as much Water down as I can. I'm walking about 2 miles a day.....

But..... I STILL FEEL HUNGRY ALL DAY LONG!!!

In my daydreams before the surgery, I thought I wouldn't feel hungry afterwards. Deep down, I know my body is still adjusting, but it's messing with my head a little bit... haha. With the intake above I'm already close to 400 calories a day, and as I understand it, we should try to stick around that marker. I'm not sure what else to add that would help me feel full that wouldn't make my calorie intake go up too high.

They say expectations are just resentments in waiting, so I'm gonna do my best to go with the flow... haha. Overall, I'm still VERY happy that I am able to do this. Just sharing what's on my mind is all.

I had the exact same surgery two days ago. I was expecting a lot more pain. I do hurt from time to time, but it's been a net positive experience at this point. Hang in there!

Happy early birthday! I am having mine April 25th as well. One week to go!

Now that we are both two days out, how are you doing? I have some pain off and on. But it is better than I thought it would be. The incision points get a bit itchy. Overall, I am happy with everything.

I am ok. A lot of pressure I guess from the gas. I feel like I’ve been beat up I’m so sore. Are you able to drink ok? I’m on Clear Liquids for a week. 1 ounce every 15 mins.

I'm experiencing everything you're experiencing. The most difficult thing for me is getting anything in my stomach. Every time sip something, I feel it. Whether it's Water or a Protein Shake, it takes forever to get it all down

Getting out the gas is getting better. In a couple of hours I'm walking through a large super Walmart and then I'm taking a lap around a mall.

Scheduled for April 25th! I'm a bit nervous because my insurance (Aetna POS) hasn't responded with approval or denial decision yet. Less than a week before surgery. Ugh!

How did things turn out for you? It was rough the first day or so but got progressively better over the next few days.

I definitely think moving around has helped. I have to drink slowly as well. Except now everything is going right through me (tmi I know). Hope you are doing well

I had SADI surgery on 4/17/23. They were supposed to fix my hiatal hernia as well but didn’t get to it because they had to remove my gallbladder and they didn’t want me under any longer. Surgery took 4 hours. I had a previous sleeve surgery on May of 2021. I am experiencing a lot of gas pain that comes and goes. Does anyone have suggestions for dealing with gas pains. I do my walking but still have a lot of discomfort with pain. Does this get better? I go for my 2 week post op in 2 days.

Same! First 1-2 days was rough. 3rd day I felt a bit better. The gas pain was terrible though. But I am struggling to get all my Protein intake in. How's that going for you?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
