Foods that made me gag

Recommended Posts

There have been foods that my body/ brain will not tolerate. I always try them every two months or so and until now, my body said no way. This weekend I have enjoyed hummus and I also tried Avocado again. They were delicious. I am going to try some really fresh fish too, fingers crossed because fish was a fav food before surgery

Anything smoked, like cheese, salmon or bacon is still off my food list. To me it tastes like an old ashtray. Yuk

Anyone else had this long term aversion ?

I didn't like bananas for several years after surgery. Too cloying. I can eat them again now, though.

The only thing I have aversions to as of today are just oily/fried stuff. I had real Peanut Butter & i was grossed out the whole time. Also donuts feel like rocks in my stomach. Which is kind of a great as I now have a valid reason to stay away from those foods! Luckily I'm able to handle naturally oily foods like salmon & avocado. Its just the processed stuff!

I'm just over 16 months out from bypass, and I still can't eat white meat chicken, or any dryer meats like pork chops, or steak, without hurling. The great thing is I still don't miss them. I can eat bacon though, but it can't be crisp.

Coconut milk/cream is the main enduring one for me. Still way too rich and makes me feel nauseous.

I have honestly been able to tolerate absolutely everything, which is a real blessing - I only realise this because of this forum and seeing what other people have had problems with. I had one ropey moment with some carrot but I have since tolerated that with no issue.

Avocado and hummus were some of my go-to foods in my immediate post-op period. Can't imagine how they affect others differently but clearly they do. Welcome to the wonderful world of WLS!

Except the first 6 months or so post op, when the shakes were disgusting to me, I have tolerated most food really well, but I do notice that I hardly ever eat or want cheese anymore which I LOVED before surgery. It just doesn't taste as good to me now.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
