Hi everyone! I am 8 days post op gastric bypass. I think I’m doing pretty well. However, I had a few friends tell me that drinking fluids would be difficult. They said I’d probably only be able to take small sips for the rest of my life. But, I can get fluids down really easily. I don’t gulp or chug, but I can take pretty large sips and I have no discomfort or pain… does this mean something is wrong with my pouch?

Congrats on your bypass! No worries - thin liquids will pass easily through your pouch. I was able to drink pretty large swallows a day or 2 after surgery. Once you transition to soft foods, you WILL feel the restriction!

I was worried about the same thing I didn’t have issues with fluids and I didn’t have any issues with food so I just progress through the stages as my doctor leave them out for me and everything was fine

It’s an individual thing. You may only be able to sip for months or you may be able to chug liquids in a few weeks. Neither is right or wrong. Just for the first couple of months we usually are advised to sip slowly to support & not strain our healing tummy & digestive systems. Follow the advice from your surgeon & you’ll be fine. You’ll get to what your body is comfortable with in your own time.

I never had issues with fluids. I could always drink more than they said I might be able to, and when I told the PA at my clinic, he said that was fine - not everyone has issues drinking.

also, any drinking issues are usually normalized once people are a ways out - so it's definitely not a "life" thing.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
