Is this normal?

So today is 4 days post op and for the first time, I had some pretty gnarly nausea. Never had any before now, and on top of that, my stomach was hurting BAD. Like bad bad. It took me 2 1/2 hours to take 7 pills, and it was excruciating with each pill. No fever, no chills, no throwing up, no feeling faint. Just this nonsense with my stomach. Now I have to take my pills again at night, and I have 7 again, and I'm literally shaking with anxiety and fear because of how bad it was this morning. Shouldn't things be easing up by now and not getting worse?????

Sounds like acid reflux. Assuming you are already on medication for acid reflux (most people need to take it for about two to four weeks post op), check with your surgeon/doctor whether you need something a little stronger for a while.

There's no burning or anything. It feels like a stabbing, almost knife like pain in my stomach. And sometimes it feels like the pill is stuck in my esophagus and then as it makes its way down later on, it HURTS, leaving my esophagus almost aching.

I am so sorry that you are feeling this way. Do you think it warrants a trip to hospital?

thats odd. I didnt have that issue. I was able to take any pills without a problem and my nausea only lasted a day or so that i didnt even take any of my nausea medication. and you have to take 7 pills at a time? what in the world did they prescribe you? I only have to take 1 which is a medication to prevent gall stones. The pain medication hydrocodone is a liquid, my anti nausea medication was a liquid.

Call your surgeon or go to the ER

You can call the pharmacy and see if you can crush any of those pills. Some of them can’t be safely crushed though so be sure to ask. But If you say the pain is “bad bad” and “excruciating” I would go to the ER. Better safe than sorry.

I have 4 pills for my MS, 1 for my anxiety, 1 for preventing reflux, and my pain pill. Only 2 were prescribed by my surgeon.

I did, and they actually told me my Baclofen can be crushed, my Lexapro can be crushed, my Oxy can be crushed, and my Omeprazole and Gabapentin can be opened and mixed with liquids or applesauce. That only left me with 2 pills, and even though the crushed meds were NASTY, it was SO much better this morning!!! Taking the 2 pills was still uncomfortable but definitely more doable than taking 7. I still have pain, but I think it's more residual now, and it's a lot less. So THANKS!!!!!

Ooh I’m so glad to hear it helped. I didn’t have any trouble swallowing pills but I heard of so many people did that I was prepared with a pill crusher on hand just in case. I tried it pre op with one of mine that had a coating on it to see and yes it was VERY gross but it went down at least. Things will heal and you won’t have to do it for long. Every day it’s gets a little easier than the day before.
