First food after bypass

Recommended Posts

Everyone whose has the bypass, when you could move to phase 3/soft food stage, what is the first thing you ate and how was it tolerated? All I want right now if a piece of chicken or cheese!

Diet progression varies depending on your surgeon. I think I was about three weeks out when I moved to soft food, but it's been several years so I don't really remember. chicken can be tough for some people the first few weeks/months. I think I was fine with cheese, though - I remember eating cheese sticks when I was early out.

I have done a lot of canned tuna and chicken which mixed with yogurt and mayo goes down pretty well. I also had some ground turkey with taco seasonings and some lite sour cream as a lubricant to help get it down. That went pretty well also. The key is small bites and time between bites and it will be fine. Gotta go sloooooow. I made that mistake and ate too quickly and it felt like a bullet in the middle of my chest and a blockage.

Hi am now on pureed foods and my pouch isn't liking it. I had tuna mixed with mayo and I began feeling nauseous. I tried pureed chili and felt nauseous. I'm thinking a few more days of full fluids may be in order for me. I am learning how to use this tool and it's difficult as I feel no restriction right now.

I had sleeve. I'm eating my first solid food right now - a cheese stick. I'm taking tiny bites and chewing them to paste. It's kind of gross, but the real problem is that I had to have a tooth removed the week after surgery (not related) and so I can only chew on one side and even that is uncomfortable. Of course, now that I've had a few tiny bites, I can feel a pain in my chest!

I had the sleeve but I think soft food stage is similar. I had egga first than chicken and tuna salads, working my way up to nice moist fish.

I had the sleeve surgery on September 16th. I’m down only 4 pounds since then, today being a week and a half out. Should I be more? What have all of you done on almost two weeks after surgery??

Each person is completely different. The higher you start, the more you're likely to lose right away—but not always.

The first week or so is basically your body in trauma. You were pumped absolutely full of fluids and gas during surgery (if you had weighed yourself immediately after you probably would've gained 5 pounds!) and your body has to get rid of it.

But if you're concerned, ask your surgeon or your bariatric center.

I noticed that my weight tumbled the first week, then was more consistent the second week (today is two weeks out). I'm sure the three-week stall is right around the corner, but that's okay.

I moved to soft foods yesterday. First thing I had was 2 slices of rotisserie chicken deli meat, wrapped around cheese, with just a touch of hummus. Also had some mashed black Beans. Today I had a bit of tuna salad, a scrambled egg (could only eat about half), and cottage cheese.

So far everything is fine.

Bananas (and other fresh fruits without the skin,) a variety of baked fish, cottage cheese with taijin seasoning, string cheese, hummus.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
