EEK! I just have ONE WEEK left until surgery (next Thursday, the 8th). Starting to get NERVOUS! 😬

I'm so uncertain about what eating post-op will be like (both in the weeks following surgery and in the future). I haven't stocked up on anything yet (like broths, shakes, popsicles, etc.) because I just don't know what I'm going to need/want! Anyone else in the same boat?

I did find a recipe that looks good, though...I guess it's for the full liquid post-op stage? Here it is, if anyone is interested:

HIGH Protein CREAM SOUP

1/2 cup low-fat ricotta cheese

2 tbsp. non-fat powdered milk

1 cup fat-free milk

1 can low-fat cream Soup (cream of chicken, cream of mushroom, etc.)

Mix all ingredients in a blender or food processor. Blend until smooth. Pour through a wire mesh strainer to remove any chunks or pieces still left. Gradually heat in the microwave. Makes 2 servings.

Per serving: 14 grams of protein

Congrats!! My surgery is also the 8th. I'm getting excited. I have a ton of Protein Shakes from over a year ago when I tried to go back to them... but I'm not sure if I will use those. My favorite are fairlife shakes... totally the best I've ever tasted. I also ordered some Bone Broth mixes and some other stuff from the store on here but I have yet to actually try them lol. Hopefully I have enough stuff to at least get me thru my first 2 weeks post op. I'm actually worried most about they day before surgery where it's Clear Liquids only... anyone have any good suggestions for that day?

Hi MoreThanWords,

I am still a few of weeks out, but I also was worried about what to eat, so I wanted to be prepared and get some the clear liquid & full liquid staples before I start my pre op diet.

I have tried some Protein Shakes from Unjury & Premier Protein. They were ok. Not a fan of vanilla now, but that may change after surgery or if I get tired of chocolate. I like adding them to coffee (Unjury had a Cappuccino flavor, I want to try it with caramel flavored Premier Protein), and will probably do that once it is allowed.

From Walmart, I purchased some sugar-free drink mixes, chicken broth, veggie broth, beef broth, sugar free Jello, & sugar free ice pops. Some items were name brand and others were Walmart brands. Trying to save $ where I can as supplements, Vitamins etc. all add up.

I bought a tub of chocolate Premier Protein from Walgreens.

Yesterday, I placed my first order on BariatricPal and ordered Aunt Millie's broths (pho & Thai), BP Protein Soups, BP protein Fruit Drinks, & GENEPRO Unflavored protein mix.

Last week I ordered some cups for shakes, Water, & broth. I got one cup with a strainer for traveling (in case I need to order Soup & strain it).

I still need to get vitamins, hibiclens, and prilosec before the surgery.

Before the puree & soft stages I want to purchase a mini portable chopper/processor & food scale.

Thanks for sharing the recipe. I see us probably having a lot of broth and soups in those first few weeks.

Jenfs5, thanks for recommending Fairlife, I want to try that brand now, too. Also worried about those clear liquid days (after surgery probably won't be bad as it isn't long and based on others experiences-you aren't that hungry at first). Hopefully, the excitement of being so close to our surgery will make it a little easier. I read other people say that the broth helped fill them up and jello helped give the chewing feeling. (Not a big fan of jello, but when you are only allowed a few things it may be nice to have)

Best of luck everyone!

I'm with you all it's the unknown. I am in my preop phase now day 7, my surgery is July 7th but so far I love drinking Fairlife. I bought the Bariatric Fusion but it's the same as Fairlife except I have to mix it. To be honest I was not getting enough calories thus far because I use almond unsweetened milk so didn't add up to enough in Day so I increases to 5 shakes a day to get at least 850-900 calories. I've been reading alot and trying to prepare dinners for family and with mine I puree. I bought 1 oz icecube trays and froze. So it's convenient. I love Dr Voung on you tube hes a bariatric surgeon he helps with alot of questions.

I'm scheduled for July 12th and I'm completely freaking out! I'm not afraid of the surgery but of life after. Afraid this will be one more tool that I will fail at.

I was really afraid of that too. I think after yo yo dieting our whole lives it hard not to be but this is a good tool and if you use it properly it works. You just have to trust the process.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
