Solids sitting in my throat

Recommended Posts

Hello!

I'm almost 3 weeks post-op. My surgeon's diet plan went from 2 weeks full liquids right to soft foods (and introducing any new foods at my comfort level). Things have been going well in this stage. I'm weighing my portions, taking my 30 minutes to eat, chewing to applesauce consistency, waiting between bites, no fluids before/during/after meals. However, I often find that after I finish my meal (I do not finish my full portion) I'm left with the feeling of my food sitting in my throat. Just like it's pooled there waiting for it's turn to go into my pouch. It generally passes within 20 minutes or so, but I am wondering if this means I am eating too much . I am not experiencing any pain, but it is kind of gross feeling, lol.

I haven't had any incidents with stuck food, vomiting, or foamies. Just this food in my throat.

It sounds like that’s your prompt for full or slightly too full. Try to stop on or two bites before you normally do to see if it doesn’t happen the next time.

If it happens despite the amount you eat, it may be post op swelling/inflammation which will go away. At three weeks post op it’s probably a bit of both

Also check with your bariatric team and see what that say about the sensation.

Yeah, it's probably a sign that you're putting too much in or it's the type of food your stomach isn't ready for. I still can't eat dense food like steak or pork chops.

Now when newbies ask "what does restriction feel like?" you will be able to tell them! It's like the food is trying to come back up your throat! Like others have said, it sounds like you swallowed one bite too many. It happens to all of us in the beginning, and then we get used to how our body tells us we are full!

Best of luck!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
