Anyone eat carbs like bread and are OK with it? I'm wondering if further in my journey if I'll be able to have it again.

Hello

I am sorry but unfortunately speaking from my experiences I can eat minimal carbs. When my son buys a sandwich and my eyes wants some I ask him to give me the butt of the bread so that I can enjoy a little bit and avoid running to the bathroom to purge.

Hello, I'm rather new here.

I am generally able to generally eat what I desire, including breads and starches.

I don't eat much bread alone, or much at all really. But when I do, it's about mechanics. If I don't chew it extra, extra well, it forms a ball and becomes uncomfortable for a while. I have to take small bites and chew it beyond reason, if it's not a slurry I add a sip of something.

Writing this, I now wonder if I don't eat much bread because it's a bother. I'll have to ponder this.

Hope this helps,

Tek

early on, carbs made me tired, but now I can eat small amounts of basically anything. carbs don't fill me up and satisfy me for long periods of time the way Protein (mainly meat) does, but I can eat them if I want. they also aren't as good as I remembered and usually not worth it. carbs slow down weight loss and keep me in grazing mode.

I agree with the fact that carbs slows down your weight loss. Its important to include some exercise on a weekly basis. I try to go to the gym 3 x a week for 45mins. I donot eat red meat. I do eat fish, chicken, veggies and fruits. But i try to stay away from veggies with high calories

Nonsense. Eating too much calories slows down your weight loss.

Tom-a-to / to-mah-to. ;)

However, Carbs and sugar become energy better than Protein. Protein, on the other hand, works better for muscle repair (building).

Timing is a factor. Carbs before exertion. Protein after.

But, to your point. Yes, calories in, calories out.

Focusing on calories only is a trap, just like so many other single issue traps.

In my experience and this is just my opinion. The problem with carbs is that they are quickly digested thus don't curb one's hunger very long. If you fill up on carbs you will probably find that you are eating more often thus consuming more calories. I want to get the most bang so I avoid carbs and mostly stick to Protein and healthy fats.

All things in moderation.

Carbs are not inherently the enemy. Carbs are inevitable. Every single Protein Bar I eat has carbs. The body does need carbs for energy.

They just are not the best choice to make when eating in terms of encouraging and sustaining your weight loss. So if you're sitting down to a meal where the bulk of the calories that you are consuming are from the carbs you're eating, it's not a good situation. You will end up burning through that energy and then will find yourself hungry again sooner than you would if more of those calories came from Protein.

You are not banned from ever eating bread or rice or Pasta or your carb of choice every again. You just want to do it in moderation and to always seek out options for those items that are lower in carbs and to really focus on eating your protein source first.

Carbs have never been excluded from my diet. During the weigh loss stage, they were a smaller part of my diet. Hitting Protein goals and keeping calories down didn't leave too much room for them. But now in maintenance, I eat relatively "normally", just smaller portions.

Thanks!

I eat carbs in moderation but I’m extremely picky about what I have/how much. It hasn’t affected my weight loss negatively. I love the Joseph’s brand of pita/lavash bread and I’m a big fan of the great low carb bread company. They have high protein/fiber, low net carb bread products like everything Bagels, Pasta, etc. I eat half a bagel and I’m happy. I also love the Ezekiel brand of English muffins or bread as it is very high quality. I think it has. Ire to do that I can’t eat a lot of it anyways and when I do those are my go to which is so much better for you.

Thanks for the suggestions!

I really watched carb intake during the weight loss phase, and as sillykitty said, there just wasn't much room for them after getting Protein, and then veggies in. My weight came off very quickly - over 100# in 7 months, but I really did journal everything and was very careful. I did my best to maximize the first 6 months that I had heard about, and it worked for me. I added grain based carbs and fats very very slowly as I approached goal weight.

I eat quite a lot of carbs now, as whole grains, seeds, legumes, fruit, and starchy vegetables, I do not eat bread or processed grains except for some chick pea Pasta, I am very active and am maintaining my weight loss. If a few pounds creep back on, I cut down on the grains and nut butters. That takes care of it.

Thank you! This is very helpful.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
