How are you doing 🥳

I’m okay! The pain was waaaay worse than I anticipated, I’m not gonna lie. First 24 hours were rough. It’s slowly gotten better since then. I discharge in a few hours, so I’m hoping being at home helps some. The fire alarm keeps going off here in the middle of the night on top of being woken up frequently for vitals so I haven’t really slept well.

I’m also burping SO MUCH and that makes me a little nervous. I can’t tell what is gas just coming out, and what is signs of over filling. I’m terrified of getting a leak so it’s a fine line to walk to get enough but not too much. Thanks for asking!

I’m still in the hospital, just over 24 hours since surgery for me. I am not going to lie— I did NOT anticipate how much pain I would be in 😖. I’m feeling a little better today, but man yesterday and last night was rough. I’m so impressed by the people who are able to do this without anyone there with them - I honestly don’t know what I would have done yesterday if my bf hadn’t been with me to do everything I needed.

Is the pain pump not working?

I feel that I'm eating too much. Today I had 150ml of milk with 1 biscuit of Weetabix (bit like porridge). And for dinner I had 2 fish fingers.

Okay that doesn't sound like a lot, but it was my understanding that in terms of volume per meal, I should be eating much less than that.

I’m a little over 2 weeks out from my bypass and recently went to my post op appointment. I was told that at this point I should be able to eat about 2 ounces at a meal. About 1/4 a cup to 1/2 cup. And, that by month 3 it should be closer to 3 ounces. Their main concern was that I ate Protein first and that I did so very very slowly. Just some insight into what I was told. Each surgeon has their own post op diet so I recommend you call their office for clarification.

No pain pump, my doctor did oral pain pills only and my nurse kept coming late to give them :(

I'm feeling MUCH better today than I was before, so that’s good!

Been feeling bloated and generally unwell for a few days. I'm definitely dehydrated, pee's turned a horrible dark orange colour and today my poop was blueish-black. Tmi?

I really need to start going outside. It's just I literally have nowhere to go. Uni is all online, no friends live near enough to visit, most places are still closed due to COVID.

Hi,

I am two weeks out and feel that way also. Slowly, I’m starting to feel better.
I ran across 15 minute mile by Leslie Sansone on YouTube. I started today, but I’ve decided to do this until I can get to the gym.
Hope this helps and that you begin to feel better soon

Had surgery on Monday, went back to work yesterday. I've gotten lucky my boss said he hired me for my brains and not braun... however I never really noticed how much walking I do in a day. Definitely, exhausted and went to be around 8 lastnight. I've had my first BM. I know alot of you might feel tmi...but I was so excited I told my sons who were getting ready for work and textes my husband. One incision is still draining but everyone that noticed the wet spot on my shirt were completely understandable and super supportive. I called my doctors office about it. It seems to be alot, but the nurse called me back and said it was normal, some people have the drainage while others don't. As long as it doesn't turn yellow or green or start to smell funny. My headaches are still waking me up. I think im sleeping about 3 hours before it wakes me up. Nothing appears to be working. Is anyone else experiencing severe headaches where its above the left eye towards the center of the head. Any ideas or suggestions...please. They hurt tremendously bad and the 500 tylenol twice every 6 hours doesn't touch them.

I’m 7 days post op and still haven’t had a BM either. I see the doctor next week and will see what he suggest if I haven’t had a BM by that time. I’m hoping the switch to full liquids will help move things along.

I finally pooped yesterday. I switched to full liquids and the Lentil Soup I was eating did the trick. I must say it was one for the books. I definitely said a prayer. 😂😂 Sorry if this is too much for some.

I'm not sure if this will help but I sipped on a Gatorade zero and it seemed to do the trick. The white one thats cherry flavor is my favorite. Hope all is well. Now I just have these hellobad headaches that won't go away and wake my from much needed sleep.. any thoughts...I doubt my insurance will cover a lobotomy this soon after bariatric surgery..🤣 🤣

How is your blood pressure? I know I used to get really bad headaches that wouldn’t go away. Once day at work I felt like my head was going to explode. I went to the hospital and my pressure was very high.

Possibly. Your body is like what’s going on?! 😂😂 No offense taking. I’m just happy I finally had one and lived to tell the tale. 😂😂😂😂

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
