Duodenal switch surgery on past Tuesday.

@HamHockSkyeI was in the hospital with morphine for 5 days so there it was not bad. When I got home I took pain pills for a couple of days and then was able to switch to ibuprofen. I hope it's a similar transition for you.

They only allowed me to stay one night in the hospital for my DS. I don't remember the pain being very bad. I think after three days it improved. The lapband surgery was much more painful for me. I wish you well.

Most of my pain was gone before I left the hospital. I used a few pain killers (Norco) for a few days afterward because the stickers areas were pretty tender and I was having trouble getting to sleep. Don't think I took any more after a week.

But I woke up Friday morning felt like I could not take a full breath went back to the hospital I have pneumonia stayed in the hospital for 3 days. Been home now since Monday the pain only comes when I drink the Protein Shakes and I know I'm new on here but they are disgusting I have tried 6 different flavors so far. I started having the urge to eat Thursday night but I'm not feeling hungry so I've been researching what's next as far as food we can eat can anyone help me with this topic please.

Hi Briggs, welcome to the forum!

I had the DS mid November. I dealt with some pain for a few days as you are feeling. Most of the pain happened when I tried to sit more than an ounce of Water at a time though.

You have to resist eating any kind of food though, your stomach is absolutely not ready for that any time soon. It is very swollen from the surgery plus it's physically much smaller than before. You have to be extremely patient at this point, the first several weeks are critical for good healing.

Your primary goal should be water to stay hydrated, then Liquid Protein.

I guess I got lucky and don't mind the taste of Premiere Protein Shakes from costco. You can always get unflavored Protein Powder and add it to water. Stay away from sugary drinks though. I had a Protein water that was way too sweet, and eventually drank more Gatorade Zero.

Thank you for the response. I am drinking as much Water as I can keep down. Thought about pureed bananas or unsweetened apple sauce but I have resisted. I just keep saying to myself this to shall pass. I am stronger than I think I will get through this what a small price to pay for the chance of a new life. Anyways thank you

You can do it!! You got this far. Follow your doctor's plan. Usually plain Water and clear Protein for a week or two then pureed food in week 3. I remember getting to eat hamburger meat, blended into paste with jarred gravy, tasted like heaven lol. I had my surgery right before Thanksgiving which was super tough.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
