RNY yesterday. I'm home in my own bed tonight with no nurses (albeit wonderful ones) waking me up every 4 minutes.

My pain level is very low and hoping the uncomfortable gas dissipates by tomorrow! So far so good !

One more day of Clear Liquids and then I can start on my purees!

Wow!! That’s fantastic!! You’re the first person I’ve heard to only have overnight with RNY so you’re really doing great!! Not for everyone, but gasX and ab binder helped me tremendously. Congratulations on the first step to your new life.

I'm a stubborn ass so was waking 1,000 steps every hour or so. There was a lap in my ward that I counted out as 250 steps so I would do five. And I sipped almost constantly.

I did go into the surgery in relatively good shape and have a very high pain threshold. Everyone is different!

I just want to say congratulations to everyone who here who took the major step of wls. There is a pervasive myth that wls is the easy way and even though we are just beginning, we all know that there is nothing easy about major surgery and committing to a lifelong dietary plan where we are determined to change and deny ourselves the thing that once brought us immense pleasure. Or at least we told ourselves it brought us pleasure because food was our friend. WLS doesn’t miraculously cure us of our love of food or our cravings for food, WLS is a tool to help us overcome our addiction to food. It just really surprises me to hear so many people who have zero knowledge about WLS say that it’s the easy way and we should just cut calories and exercise. So congratulations to my fellow warriors!!

I was wondering the same thing.

Her son was murdered , she postponed surgery and said she's taking a break from B P.

Day 3 post rny is a bit of a struggle. I have no energy and though the pain is still quite minimal, every time I swallow Water I feel like I have to burp to push it down. Logically I know it's only been two full days and there is probably so much inflammation to work through.

I'm still walking and sipping. Just not the best day so far.

I just noticed that you had RNY, not VSG! You are doing great. Unbelievable that you were only in the hospital overnight. Did your doctor prescribe anything like Pantoprazol?

It took my stomach 4 to 5 days before it stopped "flip flopping" when drinking Water. Each day after surgery did get better though. Try different temperatures to see if that helps. I could do sugar free popsicles and Jello with fewer issues as well. I had VSG so I don't know how that compares to RNY though.

Yeah I've been on PPIs for years now which was my main motivation for this surgery. I'm still taking them for now. I think it's just hard to know how much I can fit in my tiny pouch. I'm waking around the block twice every hour and although it took me two and a half hours I got my Protein Drink down.

That's good to know. I know there's a rainbow at the end of the tunnel just need to get there. I'm just thankful the pain in minimal and I got decent sleep in my own bed .

11 days post op and down 22lbs and back in the 100’s for the first time in years. I’m in shock. I still have a long way to go but I’m so happy right now. I won’t lie I have moments where I question my decision because this is probably one of the hardest things I’ve ever done, but I know I’m doing this to live a long healthy life.

That is wonderful! Yay!!!

Had my VSG surgery in the 28th. Came home last night. I have a lot of pain now. I walked and walked at the hospital and have been walking in circles here at home. I seem to have the hiccups constant now. Anyone else have hiccups??

Had my RNY on the 28th hoping to go home today but I feel great fluids going down passing gas and had a BM. I’m feeling good. I don’t feel any restriction when I drink is that normal?

Sorry to hear you are in pain, and hope it gets better very soon! I had my VSG on the 27th and didn’t have the hiccups. Hopefully, someone else who has experienced that will answer. 😘

I had RNY but I heard that hiccups were a sign you were full. It has to do with the nerve near your stomach

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
