How often do/should you weigh yourself?

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I'm curious how often you do or have been told you should weigh? When I was doing weight loss in the past (WW or JC) they would tell me to only weigh in weekly. Then when I tried noom recently they told me to weigh daily. I'll ask my surgeon and the psychologist when I get to that point in the process but I'm curious what others have been told or do?

Thanks,
Lori

I’m a daily weigher.

Every morning after I shower or am dressed I weigh myself and mark it on a calendar. I also started to keep a simple daily note on my tablet that says the day, my weight, and what I eat. (Including calories and Protein total for the day)

I weigh daily but only record weekly. The thing is if you are a daily weigher not to obsess over minor fluctuations as they are normal , but it does help to see which way your weight is trending.

I weigh daily. But, if I hit a stall I put away the scale for a week or two until I work past the stall. I don’t like my daily mood being controlled by my weight.

I weigh daily in the morning. I tend to weigh myself before I go to bed at night so I have an idea if I will lose or not in the morning. I weigh daily to keep track of how I am progressing and if I stall I try to tweak something, whether it be upping my calories a little, making sure I get enough Water, trying to be more physically active, etc, to get the numbers moving again.

I think it really depends on how the scale and seeing your weight affects your mental state of mind. Some people do well with doing it daily while it can really stress others out. Find what you're comfortable with and go with that. I don't think there is a right or wrong answer.

I really struggle with a happy medium. My trainer says weigh weekly at most. I am obsessive and weigh daily, but then it SUPER bums me out when the scale didn't move that day or went up, even a few ounces. So, I weigh about every 3 days or so. Many people here weigh daily to keep them on track, but if it starts irritating you if you don't see a move or you get upset with normal fluctuations, cut back to every few days.

thanks all. Right now I'm weighing daily and I've noticed the days i don't want to it's because i know i had a bad day before (Ironically the days I should be weighing myself). I will need to really watch myself to see if it negatively impacts my mindset an if it does I may cut down to 2 x per week.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
