Anyone else feel like it's taking forever

Recommended Posts

I went to my consult with my doctor July 24th. I have been through my psych evaluation (only one required), went to one nutritionist appointment (I have 3 pre-op) and I have my appointment with the gastro doc on 8/27 (the EDG isn't scheduled yet - it will be after this appointment). I just want to get my date already! My insurance only requires a three month period but it still doesn't seem real until I know my date - and then I can go to my primary doc for the rest of the pre-op tests. I have lost 30 lbs since I started trying 7/14/19 to lose weight, because I wanted to be healthy. I'm happy I'm losing on my own but I'm ready for the next step. I feel like all I do is obsess about having the surgery and looking at everything about it, every day, from the procedure, Vitamins, people's before and after pics, etc. I also don't want the doc to schedule my surgery for the date my father passed (10/21). I found out it would be a Monday and, sure enough, 10/21 falls on a Monday and I have this weird feeling that that will be my date. I hope I get a choice because I feel bad karma around that date. But I want it as soon as possible. Sorry, I just had to vent somewhere where people understand.

I'm still pretty obsessed with anything related to bariatric surgery and I'm over four years out! But then, reading about it every day and checking into a couple of these internet forums every day keeps my head in the game, so I won't give it up. I'm afraid if I didn't keep it front & center in my brain at least an hour or two a day, I'd stop being so disciplined and my weight would start to creep up.

They won't schedule a date without checking with you

Yeah, I was told by the nutritionist to call the doc as soon as my EGD is done, and they'll schedule me then. So that's what I'm waiting for (and waiting, and waiting, and waiting, LOL).

I totally feel for you. I’m paying out of pocket so my journey has been super fast by comparison. I thought I would have to wait months and months, but as it turns out. I was able to schedule my operation on the day of my first consultation, which was last Wednesday.

Ive been wanting to do this for years so I knew I was ready mentally. But I was so happy I was able to do it so quickly. I’m now scheduled for the 19th of September. It has seriously only been a week and I simply cannot wait. I’m so fortunate, but the date cannot get hyperextended fast enough. I feel like my life cannot start until after the operation so it just feels like an eternity of waiting.

I truly empathize with those who have been waiting months or even years to get their insurance to comply. It is very difficult to feel like you have to wait to start your new life. All I can say is, it will come. But man, don’t I wish i could just fast forward to one year post op where most of the weight is gone. Sigh.

It really is a journey.

It is indeed. I will probably have a date for October or November. Hoping for October because November is my birthday. Not that I'll be having cake anyway, LOL. I just want to feel good for the holidays.

That's awesome! Good Luck. I'm going to call my surgeon once I see the gastro doc next week and see if I can get a date before I have the endoscopy.

Yes, it will be 2 weeks of mostly liquids, with one small meal each day (consisting of 3 oz meat, 1/2 cup veggies and 1/4 cup starch/carbs). I start the pre-op diet Monday, 10/14. My last appointment with my surgeon is tomorrow and he should now have all of my results. I'm so nervous and, like you, I'm still checking on this site (and others), all throughout the day. I feel prepared and well informed. It's good to know but, sometimes, I have to block out the negative comments so I don't go full-on hypochondriac mode. No one scares me like....me with too much information. :51_scream:

You have a good date - Veteran's day and my grandfather's birthday.

@Cherylmilla I don't read the negative comments since my mind is already made up and well informed so I just read the helpful ones. Maybe you will remember my date and check on me ...Your pre op is the same as mine . Good luck and God speed with your recovery.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
