Hi y’all! Fair warning, I’m posting PUI (posting under the influence) right now! ?????????

Seems I had a serious case of the fomos this week with @GreenTealael having her upcoming VSG to RNY surgery for GERD and @Alex Brecher having his RNY reversal for bowel obstructions/necrosis. I just had to wrap up a pending tri-fecta! LOL

What I thought was a serious case of food poisoning — or as I like to say, “When good refrigerator roulette goes bad”...was actually a sudden onset of internal hernia with twisted gut. It came on so quickly Sunday night and by Tuesday I couldn’t eat. And Wednesday ended up curled up on a cold tile (filthy) floor in the ER convinced I was dying, moaning, sweating profusely and making quite a spectacle! My only regret is I didn’t have a tip jar handy to earn a few quarters!!

It’s a risk of WLS that is part of less than 3% total for complications after surgery—so no need to fear complications from WLS. To put in perspective that 3% is lower than the national averages for all sorts of surgeries!!!

I’m 17 months out from RNY and was just so super surprised by this new development! But initial surgery went very well! I went into surgery at 12 midnight and was back in my room after recovery by 3:45am! Woot! I have a rockstar surgeon and team who were able to do it all laporoscopically!

She said if I play my cards right and am able to eat something later today and get my walking in that I can probably go home late this afternoon! Yeah, baybee!!!

Now I just have to proactively start medicating to guard against having a Rosemary’s Baby sort of post op poo! ??

i’m so grateful to everyone and for our Bariatric Pal Family! Thanks Alex for creating such a special place!

(Oh and I don’t recommend doing it this way, but this morning was back to being only 3.4lbs away from final Goal #3 of 130lbs!!! Woohoo! With my post op plan progression in place I expect to shed this post surgical fluid weight gain in a couple of weeks and reach Goal #3!)

I dont pray much, but I will pray loudly and often that you dont get the gas pains after laproscopic surgery then!

On a side note: When i was in the hospital during surgery, there was another guy in my room who had had surgery for a twisted intestine. He was a healthy kid in college. So even if it's more common in bariatric patients, twisted gut still happens to normies.

Hey great to see you!! Yes it happens frequently to RNY people. There is a point between 2 major blood supplies where they access the stomach. It’s on our left by the spleen adjacent to the stomach and being MO this area is ripe with fat. Sometimes the doc uses a stitch in there to close it and other times they leave it open. She left mine open and because I lost so much and lost the deep internal fat, that hole became bigger cuz it wasn’t filled with fat anymore. So it was big enough for the small intestine to slip through and tangle with the omentum (a blood rich net of fat that wraps over the peritenium and protects the organs within). So they had to work out and untangle the si and put I back in the sack and close the hole up. ?

OMG! Fluffy!! Hugs hugs and more hugs! I am so glad you had an amazing surgeon. Please please take it easy (and stop worrying about goal#3 for now)!!!

Just now got a day off so I’m hitting the boards and saw this.
So glad everything seems to have gone well and it’s awesome that you’re still so upbeat, although that’s not surprising.

So sorry to see this happening to you. Hopefully you are on the mend!?

Update. Things are going great. Back to walking 60+ minutes a day and back on my forever diet of success. I do have pain, but it's easily handled with tylenol at night. Some gas pain in shoulders, but minimal. I'm back at work today and business as usual. Yay team.

Remember to listen to your gut! If you "feel" a sudden INTENSE onset of symptoms--don't ignore them! Contact your surgeon PDQ and all should be well!!!

Oh FC that sounds like a nightmare. so sorry to read about it and so glad you are on the mend and handling it like a champ. I know you are getting near goal #3 but this is a LITTLE EXTREME as a weight loss tactic. Please no more twisting and herniating and I hope you are able to avoid Rosemary's Baby poo....you crack me up.

At the time, I seriously thought I was dying. And I played the drama card big time! Cuz you know, what's a death scene without drama and a seriously curious audience of strangers. Right? But in the end, once big time Billy Badass morphine was on board and I was no longer writhing or sweating, things felt much less cray. And I was one of the lucky ones. Sadly @Alex Brecher got the short draw on his. That's who I'm saddest for! Mine ended up being NBD and 45 minutes later I'm out and discussing the great trip I'd been on with fentanyl and my cute anesthesiologist.

And yes, I will stop at NO lengths to reach Goal #3. LOL. Take no prisoners. Tawanda!!!

Update today: 7.16.19

I weighed in at 135.8lbs. Morning of surgery I was 133lbs and went up to my highest weight after surgery (from D5LR IV) was 141lbs.

Obscenely relieved to see the scale going in the right direction!!!
