I am a huge fan of sushi...don't like the raw stuff...I like shellfish and veggie sushi....

Am I going to give that up after banding???

hi jowjow,

it's hard to tell.

the rice MAY be a problem, it varies person to person - even with me day by day (hour/hour sometimes).

my advice - try it .. take your time with it. small bites, chew well (like a good bandster always does :P ) if it works, great ... repeat the above steps ...

good luck!

I was able the other day to eat the ones you like (I like them too, no I love them) the only problem was the nori. was afraid to eat that ate some but not most. I am able to eat most things. the only problems so far (3 months post surgery) is most white over processed rice. sushi rice was fine. good luck each person is different.

I make nori all the time, have no real trouble eating it - its filling very quickly.

But my kids LOVE it, so its often a weekend lunch treat, wasabi and all. Sure beats hot dogs, meat pies or fresh white bread which we always used to eat as Saturday or Sunday lunches.

Most sushi places have a bean/soy paper alternative to the nori. Ask for it next time and see if they have it. It pretty much just melts in your mouth - very thin. You can also ask them to go light on the rice... or get the inside-out sushi (rice on the outside) and scrape it off. :)

I can do sushi, but I've opted to forego rice. Not that there's really great sushi in the midwest. *sigh* If you're concerned about the rice, or just can't do it, go with sashimi (that's what I do). I've even seen cooked "sashimi" lately - mostly at grocery stores.

I love the rolls, I don't know the name.. has the nori seaweed wrapped around rice and xx. I like the california rolls. Since banding, there was a month when too tight I couldn't get it down.

Other then that, as long as I bite it (which is a task) instead of eating it whole, it goes down fine. Rice never gives me a problem, but the seaweed can if I don't chew it up as much as possible (it doesn't break it up, but makes it a little clump).

I practically live on sashimi right now. I only order the rolls if I am taking it home because they way I eat them is really messy and unattractive -- I poke out the center and eat the fish and veg, leave behind the rice and the nori. That probably defeats the purpose of ordering the roll, but sometimes one needs a change from sashimi :)

I had sushi this weekend.. Instead of getting all you can eat I ordered it alacarte, I got one roll and it went down great!

I just tried sush for the second time since my fill on 11/16 - extremely painful. This has been virtually the only food I absolutely cannot eat - the sticky rice is just too sticky. I had to try it again though because it is my absolute favorite food. This is a sad day. I am sure I will try again! (stubborn)

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
