Good morning!

RNY revision 4/3/19

HW 271 SW 260 CW 250

is anyone else having a hard time getting all liquids and calories in? I’ve been so tired. My surgeon told me to eat 800 calories a day and drink at least 64 oz. I’m finding it hard with 30 mins before/after eating.

also. When can we have real coffee? 🤣🤣

Is anyone else struggling with their energy levels just suddenly plummeting? Some times I feel like I am going along fine and then I just hit a wall. I've been getting my Protein and fluids in, but I still haven't topped 500 calories in a day. I am sure that is part of it. I have my followup with the dietitian tomorrow. Hoping to get moved onto the pureed/soft diet stage. Hopefully that will help with the energy levels. Otherwise, I am healing well and back to work half days this week.

so glad to read everyone's updates!

I am exactly the same. I am three weeks post-op. Some days I just go and go like I normally would and then BAM, I hit a wall and I have to lie down. That’s why my surgeon told me that the “magic number” for calories seems to be around 800 to get over this excess tiredness. I am still off work thanks to an amazing sick leave policy...and, quite frankly, my surgeon said I shouldn’t go back to work feeling like this. I am teleworking some. I do think moving to soft foods will help with your calorie intake. I also drink Protein Shakes to up my calories and fluids.

Yes!!! This!!! I work a full time job, which I went back to the week after surgery. I was sleeved on the 8th, and back on the 15th. I’m at a desk but up and down quite a bit helping up on the retail side. However this week I started back to my second job of waiting tables. I felt so lightheaded, I had to go outside a few minutes and put my head between my knees. My pulse according to my Fitbit was 161! I had 16,000 steps at that point in the day as well. My pulse has been running slightly high in the upper 80’s-90’s since surgery. I asked my surgeon, they said it’s normal if you aren’t drinking as much as you did preOp. Your body feels dehydrated. PreOp I drank 80-100oz Water a day. 60 is still a bit of a struggle. I’m going back to wait tables tonight, after I get off from my day job. Really hope it’s better. I’m taking Protein to drink during my shift, the water didn’t cut it Monday. Wish I worked somewhere that we had sick leave 😕. But yes, I’m constantly exhausted!! Hang in there, I hear it gets better!

I was sleeved on 4/11, I just had my 2 week appointment with the PA today. I am approved to move on to puréed foods for 2 weeks! Some soreness still which she said would be the case for a week or two more around the largest incision but otherwise my recovery has been smooth! I am back at work this week but sitting at a desk most of the day just trying to get up and walk a lap every hour or so. Still kind of hard to get both the 60oz of Water and 60g of Protein, I’ve set timers to remind myself to drink every 10 mins or so to make sure I can get the water in. Looking forward to some greek yogurt and refried Beans tomorrow!!
@girlaccountant I’m sorry you are already back at two jobs that has to be tough! @labgoddess I am struggling sometimes too especially because I am trying to take walks and halfway through getting really tired and hating that I have to turn around and walk all the way back 😂 but I am hoping that eating some actual food will help!!! Glad to hear everything is going pretty well for everyone and it will just keep getting better!

I had my sleeve on 4/8 and I’m right there with you. Never thought I’d kill to eat an egg.
I said this yesterday! I need savory items. Everything I drink taste sweet- Protein Shakes, Jello, Popsicles, Protein Water. I’m so tired of chicken broth and veggie broth. I’ve branched our a little to cream soups... but I want eggs!

@Tallymom @girlaccountant @LabGoddess @brownymix13 @OhMyGracious!

I hear all of you on the energy levels going up and down.

@girlaccountant I don’t know how you are surviving doing two jobs, that’s so incredibly hard and then dealing with energy levels and getting Water and Protein down.

I had my 2week post op appointment yesterday. I’m allowed to start purées but I have no idea how I will be able to eat 80g of protein via purées and shakes I feel like I’m eating all day. I got quite overwhelmed yesterday and a little this morning that I can quite easily just skip eating (purely because of how annoying the process of it is taking, NOT because I’m trying to avoid eating from a dieting sense - I know that’s not an option and also doesn’t work)

When I feel low on energy I also get a sweaty thing happen, like a shot of adrenaline that seems to freak me out and then I need to lay down.

I’ve also been sick now for a few days and that is taking a toll also - not sleeping well, coughing and blocked sinus etc. (I was also sick the week before surgery same thing)

Trying my best to remind myself that it’s all small steps, you don’t have to be perfect, do what you can.

Aside from all that I’m happy with how it’s going it’s and been so far. I do feel nervous that I won’t lose weight this week, which really shouldn’t be my worry. Focus more on health an nutrition, however clearly I want to know this works.

So clearly I’m happy, tired, a little apprehensive and some positivity.

I feel like such a fool for being so many things at once.

I’m grateful to read others experience to know we’re going through similar circumstances.

Much love and happiness to everyone.

OMG I’m lying here in so much pain from eating a few teaspoonsful of food. I’m literally, tears are running down my face😭 I also brought some of it back up.

Between that the coughing and saw sinus, runny nose. I want to die. wtf did I try and eat for.

I’m so sad and in pain.

How long post-op are you? Which food stage are you in? If you’re where you should be, you need to call your doctor; if you jumped in ahead of time, a painful lesson learned, I’m afraid. Hope you feel better soon!

I’m purées, 16 days post op. Haven’t jumped ahead. It’s heartburn pain that went for an hour.

April 1st sleeve. In soft/solid stage. I find that if I add flavor and light spice to my food I enjoy my food better. For instance I add salsa to canned chicken and really enjoy the taste. Just tried Wendys chili last night and it was yummy. Seeing energy levels get better. Started gym on Tuesday. Overall. I feel like I'm doing well.

Consider Protein Water. Premier Protein Water has 20g protein, but counts as water too. I have to add Crystal Light to cut the aftertaste, but it’s been a lifesaver for me.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
