I got my psych appointment!

Recommended Posts

I just received the call for my psychologist appointment next Saturday! After this I only have a couple more requirements before I can submit to insurance. I think I'm more nervous about this than the actual surgery.

I was so nervous about my psych interview also. I overthought and stressed about it because everyone had such different experiences with them that I didn't know what to expect. I can only tell you my experience was great. After doing an online questionnaire I was scheduled for a phone interview which consisted of questions about any history of depression, suicidal thoughts, why I wanted the surgery (for my health and mobility) if I was married or had any children and does my family support my decision for weight loss surgery. It felt like I was talking to one of my friends. Just be yourself and you'll be fine!

It should be fairly easy. I already work with a therapist due to depression, so I didn't have to see a psychologist per se but I did have to meet with the psych lady at the surgeon's office for about 30 minutes and all she wanted to make sure was that I had a support system in place for post-op and that I had realistic expectations of the results.

Congrats! I was a little nervous about the psych eval, but it was no big deal. It actually ended up being one of the easiest parts of the entire process for me. Good luck!

Thanks guys. I know I shouldn't worry about it and I really don't have any issues that would prevent me from getting the surgery. There's just that one little voice in the back of my head that's making me over think anything I could say.

It's really not so bad, I promise! :) I ended up going back to the evaluation psychologist as my normal psychologist now as well, which is really nice. They typically just ask questions that judge whether or not you're ready for the surgery, if you have eating disorders, and so on.

Mine literally only took 15 minutes. He just asked questions about my family, if I had support etc..

I was there for 5 minutes and then he told me he would send it to my doctor's office. I was just nervous that I would be delayed. I'm so close to my surgery that I don't want anything to get in the way!

Im thinking early to mid May. I have my fourth of 6 months of appointments tomorrow and my Drs office said it takes about a month for insurance approval and then a week or two for the surgery date. The only requirements I have left after my colonoscopy/endoscopy next month are a nutrition class and a hospital class.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
