We're practically the same size. My surgery is on dec 26. Everyone is different. Just take it day by day. That's all we can do. We are doing this to better ourselves.

Sent from my SM-G950U using BariatricPal mobile app

Mine is 12/26 and my starting weight was 247. I am 5 feet.

I've noticed a bunch of people's stats lately and many of them show 100lbs or more down in under a year. (Most have starting weights around 300 or less). Is this typical? YES I AM COMPARING MYSELF TO OTHER PEOPLE. INB4 SOMEONE COMMENTS THAT I SHOULDN'T. lol. I feel like it's an impossible ways away!

No judgment here - you are just trying to manage expectations which is normal. Everyone's journey is different - but yes, I have lost over 100 pounds in under a year. In fact, I was 9 months post-op when I hit the 100 pound weight loss.

My SW was 261 and CW is 159. My GW is 150 (was 140 but I think for me that will be too small).

And because pictures speak louder than words - here you go

I was told to expect to lose 60% of my weight with the sleeve. I gave myself the first golden year to get the most out of my WLS. After being on this site, I was realistic about slow, normal, and fast weight loss rates. I got to goal in six months. Totally unexpected. I would have been fine to reach it in a year or more.

The only thing that matters is getting your health back.

And how you now feel about yourself. And we all should take pride in what we have done for ourselves by this commitment to health.

I am down a total of 143 lbs in about a years time. from a 46 inch waist to a 31. My high weight was 305, now I'm 162. Not sure if it's typical, but it was my journey.

Maybe people are doing totals. I know i do both but having said that.. when i was on a diet before the surgery, I lost 120 in 8 months. Sadly i put it back on hence the surgery, so it is possible especially with the surgery limiting what your intake is. Having said that i was at the gym 7 days a week back then too.

Yeah I was going gym 7 days a week for 6 months in 2012 lost 100lbs in 6 months and that was without surgery but put it back on a year later so I know how to lose it but will be having RGB this year to help me long term

Exactly! I am in the same boat. I look at this tool as a way to stay on track and not get off track because you now have a restriction that will keep you where you are supposed to be,

I think a lot of the time the stats include pre-op weight loss as well as post-op, so the “100 pounds in under a year” could really be 25 lbs before surgery, and then 75 lbs over the first 10-12 months post-op.

My starting weight was 282.4, but I was 269.5 on surgery day because of my brief, two week pre-op diet. A lot of people have much more extensive pre-op diets and have to lose significant weight ahead of surgery.

I am now 6 months out from surgery and just over 75lbs down overall. Weight loss has slowed significantly so I’m not really sure whether I’ll hit 100 by my anniversary counting from my highest weight, and I definitely don’t think I’m going to get to 169 by then.

Just an added ingredient to think about! I also did RNY, not sure which surgery you’re doing!

Right so- I lost 100lbs in under a year. I was 339 when I started the program and 302 on surgery day in July. I’m now 225.

I do think this is different for everyone. Likely, the closer you stick to plan- the better your results will be. Also- seems like the big losers are usually hitting the gym like crazy, too.

Well insta___adventurer I'm pleased for you, that is a very nice loss since July, looks like you may be in Onederland before long. And when you are please post, I'll be cheering for you! Currently my next baby goal is 250, I'm 260- something, maybe 268, maybe a little less, I lost 8 pounds in one week if the doctors scales are correct, only lost 3 mid December to mid-January, but I'll take it anyway. Kinda sad, before surgery I was heading toward death by obesity, the end of November either I wasn't using the Protein I was eating or I malnourished myself, ended up hospitalized for almost 6 days, and gained a PICC line for TPN nourishment through an site in my upper left arm. Dang it, I couldn't even lose weight correctly, guess I could not do THAT right!
So now I'm losing slower and healthier, but still on a losing path.12 hours fed through my portable pump, 12 hours to run errands, make a stab at housecleaning, cooking for Tomkitten, microwaving my small p.o. intake, I alternate days, odd days it's a Protein Shake, even a homemade Soup slightly pureed with Protein Powder. But the majority of my nutrition is TPN to allow my ulcerations in my jejunem and stoma- strictured pouch to heal. Before long I expect they will be weaning me off the supplement and back to varied foods as soon as they say I'm healed, maybe 2 more dilatations? But I am trying to be peaceful, accepting, approaching it in a calm manner, my surgeons have a plan, they know they can handle this challenge, so I know I can too. Finally found another prtein shake I can stand, strawberry Ensure HIGH PROTEIN. Actually tastes pretty close to Strawberry Quik & Little Frustr8 used to 💘 that stuff! One of the few Without that fakey evaporated milk taste I grew to HATE. I used to enjoy Premier Protein until my verdompt Wal-Mart deleted all flavors except vanilla and chocolate. And NEVER buy their house brand Equate, that stuff is nasty and foul-tasting. One of my September friends spilled Equate on her floor, neither the Car or Dog would lap it up, and she told me '"Poochie even eats garbage and he wouldn't touch it "so animals even think it's BAD.

Frustr8, sorry for the troubles you have had, but if I remember where you started, 260 something is quite impressive! Especially in light of the troubles you have experienced.

My weight loss has started to slow. I need to step up my workouts and track foods better. By hook or by crook I will get there!

Yep, I hit 100 pound weight loss in 6-7 months, can't remember. But, I think BMI is more important as a 500# male is going to lose 100# much faster than a 200# female who is much closer to normal BMI.

I'm 183cm and 320lbs my goal weight is around 185 I assume once I do get the bypass I'll be able to also follow you and lose the 140lbs that I need within a year definitely but tell me what is your fitness regime or diet like since the bypass..because it's not easy to lose that much so I'd like any tips from the man that has done it so well!!

I certainly didn't expect to break more than 100 LBS in less than 9 months, let alone a year! Other than really hammering the Water intake... I can't think of a reason why my specific results are what they are. But, Water really REALLY is amazingly important to weight loss.

How do you make sure that you don't over do it on the water? My worst fear is stretching my stomach due to the water intake. If it were up to me I'd be drinking water the entire day

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
