Feeling very tired, thought it was get better

Recommended Posts

Hello!

I'm happy for having this surgery, been struggling with my weight for years on and off several medications, crazy diets and exercising at times.

Everything went well, except I was told by my Doctor and nutritionist to eat more! Especially red meat and Proteins and I haven't been able to eat bigger amounts of food. About 5 to 6 ounces of food for lunch is the best I can do. I can barely get through a full glass of Water without feeling my stomach.

I have absolutely no energy, I used to walk about 6 miles pre-op just fine, now I can't do about 2 and that leaves me extremely tired, I also have to take a nap during afternoon to stay awake until later for work or I end up like a zombie. Every blood test came out just fine including Iron, D, B12 (I'm taking a lot of supplements)

This is of course slowing my whole process down since I haven't been exercising properly, I lost 64lbs since the surgery and I've been losing about 3lbs per month.

Can anyone relate to this? Thanks

I'm fresh out of surgery, and I already feel stagnant as I'm trying to eat more but also feel like I'm not really dropping the weight as fast I thought ?
but wow ! you have done such a great job so far looking at your stats. Please stay encouraged, and dont focus so much on numbers but how you feel with yourself and be proud of what you have amounted! acknowledge it and own it!

Yup. Underlying Illness and meds can detract from progress. Sometimes it doesn't always goes like in the books... Perfect on paper vs energy in real life can be quite varying. Take a strong hard look at your diet and try to include nutrient dense, superfoods. Protein isn't the only important thing to get optimal amounts of. Balance is critical. Also take a look into your electrolytes. Low vit K will make you feel like the walking dead. Tell your team you need additional support.

Safe Journey!

I believe around 1000 to 1200, that depends on how active I am, since I've been pretty sedentary at the moment I've been avoiding overeating which I do mostly for obligation and out of anxiety, since there's something in my head saying "I must eat something"

Been eating all kind of *healthy* foods, haven't "slipped" once. I'm keeping my eye on balance and cooking or doing grocery hasn't been easy.

Already used to eat healthily, but one ice cream and I would get back 30lbs. Most of my lost weight came off before the surgery, it's sitting at 64lbs loss after surgery, five months.

Your fatigue concerns me. Sounds like you're eating really sensibly and mindfully...so you really should have energy.

Two ideas...

1. Get a physical. Not a bariatric physical...but a regular one. See if your regular doc has any ideas. If that checks out and s/he thinks you're physically ok, maybe try...

2. Have a visit with a bariatric therapist. Sometimes losing a lifelong coping mechanism and all the changes we go through...can have emotional fall out we don't realize. Can cause some depression that can put us off our game. Can't hurt to look into if nothing else is making sense.

Best wishes! Feel better soon!

Good points Creekimp, I think it's behind Door #2. Depression. It can gray-ify- a sunny day. Been there, done that, better now post-surgery. Told PCP I would be.

I had my surgery about a month and a half after you, I can barely get a 3oz portion of Protein down in one sitting. Not sure if the amount of time makes that much of a difference but maybe your trying to eat to much in a meal and overall not getting enough? Are you reaching/exceeding your goals for both protein and Water daily? I usually eat 2oz of protein and a veg per meal. That way I'm getting in some type of carbs and Fiber in my diet. If I eat more than 2oz there is no way I'm getting anything else in. I'm also still relying on my shakes to meet goal for protein. Water is no problem, I carry around a 24oz container of water that I continuously drink from and refill when empty.

Hope you figure it out soon. Best of luck and keep us posted.

Thanks, I thought it was emotional at first, but I kinda have the will to do the things like fixing my own car and doing things at home, going out and even more than before the surgery just end up very tired. I have an appointment with my GP next week.

Red meat is the hardest to digest and I usually eat the vegetables/whatever first, there's a good chance I'll leave something behind if it's past my limit.

Honestly I'm not sure about hydration, I was told to not drink anything prior and after eating.(I hate it) I also carry a 33oz bottle of Water with me, it usually needs to be refilled twice along whatever I drink along the day.

Red meat is hard for the body to digest. If your Doc and Nut said to eat more red meat, you probably need Iron. Supplement with Protein Drinks and eat less dense meats (ground) so your body can absorb them. The bypass has the largest impact on your body's ability to absorb nutrients (compared to VSG). Experiment with different Vitamins (like liquid) and drink Powerade zero or the like to replenish electrolytes, etc. It sounds like an absorption issue. Ask your Dr. about that.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
