October 2018 Sleevers

Recommended Posts

I was allowed to swallow pills (Tylenol) in the hospital. I've been swallowing my Prilosec capsule every day since I got home and Actigal (to prevent gallstone formation) since 10 days after my surgery.
I wouldn't take huge or solid ones (I mean, the Actigal is really big, but it's a capsule, so I'm guessing it breaks down in the stomach). Like a normal One-A-Day Vitamin might be too much, but Prilosec is definitely fine, according to my team.
Thank you so much. I was opening my Prilosec

Just wondering if anyone is as annoyed as I am with the weight loss? I’ve lost 27 lbs overall which I am happy with but 14 of that was pre op. I was sleeved on 10/1 and feel like I’ve should’ve lost more than 13 lbs considering I’m still on a liquid diet (I have eaten small amount of food here and there not much). My eating habits were so extreme pre surgery and I know it takes time but I’m just wondering what the hell is happening. Is it me??
Be patient dear. Everyone is different. The weight will come off before you know it.

Stay encouraged [emoji6]

I had my sleeve done 10/10/18. I am currently in the hospital in extreme pain. I have a blood clot in my stomach. Apparently it is very rare. My doctor has only seen it 3 times in 20 + years. Has anyone else had this issue? Or am I alone
Oh my. I'm so sorry. I pray that everything will get better.

Had surgery today in Mexico and vomiting blood.
doctor and nurses says normal. I don’t have a drain so I figure I’m throwing up the blood left in stomach ?
anyone else have/had this issue?
my pain and vomiting aren’t being managed well either [emoji24]
Oh my goodness. That doesn't sound right. I was very nauseous and had really horrible pain after the surgery, but they gave me different meds until things were better. I coughed up one blood clot the next morning , but that was it.

They may have either nipped some vessels or the spleen. I pray that they didn't.

I think I’m dehydrated. I feel weak, light headed, a bit shakey, cold and I have a headache. I know I need to drink more. I’ve managed about 8 oz today and it’s noon. I really don’t want to go to the hospital for IV fluids but if I can’t meet my fluids today I am going to have to.

I spoke with 2 of the doctors and they both said it was normal . Just blood that was left in the stomach and since I have a history of vomiting from anesthesia it probably made it worse .

Mom doing better post op day 1. I walked a bit and have some nausea. It burned and hurt really bad when I first started liquids . My stomach is growling which I didn’t think it would do that so soon.

thanks for all of the concerns

Try to sip Gatorade or something to keep you electrolytes up. Have you had any Protein today? I felt the same way and once I forced a little bit down, I felt a little better. Dont overdo it. Make sure you are resting. [emoji120] [emoji4]

I’m having gastric sleeve surgery on November 2. 2018. Will I be sore and hungry after the surgery? Will it be hard until I can eat real food again?

Hi ZekeMan. I had surgery last Tuesday. Everyone’s pain tolerance is different but I had very little pain. Just a little sore! I’ve been on the full liquid diet since and I’m not hungry just miss chewing! Lol

The way I look at it is that two weeks are nothing in the grand scheme of things!

Best of luck to you on your journey!

Thank you Georgetown:

That helps me a lot on making my decision. I am just nervous about the surgery and thinking about all the festivities coming up such as thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years!!

When I start to get that sick tummy from dehydration, sugar free popsicles help me get past it. Also, I can't drink room temperature liquids, most of the time. Popsicles work, and hot tea works. Maybe one or both will work for you?

I wouldn't describe what I feel as hunger. Lots of head hunger for sure... My stomach just kind of gurgles and makes too much noise when I go too long without eating. Its definitely not what I used to feel as hunger.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
