October 2018 Sleevers

Try things room temprature, go very slowly, literally drop by drop, let your throat get used to it. That said sugar free popsicles worked best for me, rather froze, the pain away. Everybody's body reacts, differently to the trauma of surgery.

You got this! My surgery was done 10/9 in an out patient center. I had my daughter and brother to help me.... I was out of it and sore... fortunately no gas and minimal nausea, but I took the nausea meds and suppository as scheduled because I did not want to be nauseous 🤢everyday gets better! I am still feeling fatigued but doc says it takes days for anesthesia to leave system... today is 4 days out and I feel human.... I was afraid as they prepped me and thought of backing out... then I realized I was letting fear try to hold me back... you have to do something different to get different! Best of Luck!

Spent some time with my aunt and sister today and they were SO judgmental. Kept saying having this surgery is cheating and that I’ve only lost Water weight (30 lbs of water weight??) and that they only respect people who lose weight the “hard” way. I got so mad I almost walked out. Like this isn’t hard??? Ugh. Rant over.

Ugh I’m so sorry! That’s the last thing you need. Try to put it out of your head and know you’re doing this for you and you only! Besides, if this was easy we all would’ve done it years ago!

Thanks @georgetown, you’re right I really didn’t need that at all. I have no support right now and I’m not feeling great and just want to cry a lot now

Hi Oct 11th surgery pals. How are you all doing? I'm still on pain meds and today started this new cramping that hurts terribly. Not sure if it's gas or constipation!!! Not getting much down either. Maybe my age (59) has this surgery hitting me harder than normal.

Sorry to hear you are having problems. I was also sleeved on the 11th. Discharged this afternoon. Pain is considerably less than it has been over the past two days. Walking has seriously helped the gas problem. I’m getting in a least 64 oz. of liquid since yesterday and “eating” more regularly. Sometimes cold liquid works better, other times I react better to warm broth. You’ll master your body and it will all be fine. It just takes some people longer than others. Everyone’s body reacts differently to healing from major surgery. Hang in there....you will do great. Just be patient and follow your doctor’s orders.

Hi everyone! I was sleeved on the 2nd and have a weird pain that started today and wondering if anyone has experienced this or any insight? I have felt great the last 4-5 days; lots of energy, liquids going down great, and incisions healing great. I’ve been doing 20 minute walks the last few days (surgeon suggestion) and today used the treadmill. After my walk today I laid down on the couch and felt this intense spasm type pain the left of my belly button. I got up walked around and it went away quickly and then when I laid down again it came back. It seems to be muscular because when I hold that part of my stomach (it’s like right in my roll over my belly button) it doesn’t happen. I am not sure if this is something to be alarmed about or minor. Any insight is helpful. I will call my office if it gets worse.

It’s hard to do this without support! Have you tried a support group? I found them helpful to talk to others who are going through the process. I’m having my surgery Tuesday but I’m here if you need support!

I was told not to use my treadmill until I got the OK and I was like why? why? why? Apparently people can overdo it without realizing it.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
