Hi guys!

Had my sleeve 2 weeks ago, and just getting around to updating. 2 weeks of liquids and just today had the all clear to start on purees. food glorious food!

How are you all doing?

Good for you. My surgery was exactly 2 weeks ago today. Still in full liquid but I do sneak some purées in. Hard to keep on just liquid. How are you feeling? Other than missing chewing my food I’m feeling great. Still a little tired but my energy is definitely back up. Struggling with getting enough Protein too.

I’m 3 days post-op and heading home. I had my surgery in Mexico so it’s a full day of travel for me to get home. I’m a bit nervous about the travelling since I’ve done nothing but rest the last few days but my pain is very low and tolerable.

I was sleeved 10/1 and I thought you weren’t supposed to be as hungry as you were before. I am starving!!!

Same here!! Not as hungry as before maybe but I definitely get hungry!! See my doc tomorrow and will ask if he really took anything out!! 😂

That's how I feel! Will be asking on Friday (no pain either). I fear that I have been punked!

Hey, just checking in (I read back through the thread to see how folks are doing. Thank you all for the well-wishes and condolences. ❤️

I just successfully ate my first cottage cheese since surgery (10/3), and I've done fine with Greek yogurt and ricotta (with just a little Italian seasoning and low-fat Trader Joe's pizza sauce, because that's what I have on hand). Balancing my nutritionists' "try to eat three meals per day" with "get more than 60 grams of protein" and "don't drink within half an hour of eating" and "get more than 64 ounces of liquid" is ... a lot, especially with going back to school and dealing with family stuff. I'm not getting all that much Protein from my food, because I'm only eating a couple of tablespoons, maybe, per "meal." I know it gets easier, and if I'm only at 55 grams of Protein One day (or, like ... three?) it won't kill me or make all of my hair fall out. I'm not freaked out about it, just sharing the struggle, I guess.

My Vitamins make me a little sick, though as the amount of food I can eat increases, so does my tolerance for them. It'll work itself out.

Also, I joked to my spouse, before surgery: "I'm ready for all kinds of complications, so the one I end up with will be one I didn't think of." Yeah. Uh. I was allergic to something they used during the surgery. About a week afterward, I broke out in hives all over my torso and the tops of my thighs. My surgeon isn't very helpful: "try taking Benadryl, and if that doesn't work I'll order a steroid block for you, but I don't want to do that." (Steroids wreak havoc on post-surgical healing.) I've looked for information online, and most people get over them on their own, so I'm making due with hydrocortisone cream (it's a steroid, but only a low amount of it, and on my skin instead of being taken as a pill), Aveeno eczema-strength lotion (has a lot of oats in it, which are good for this kind of thing), and Benadryl at night. So... that's been awful. (They are very itchy hives. It's terrible.)

I can drink pretty normally again, now. I don't have to have these itty-bitty sips. I think gulping would hurt, and I make sure not to do that, but normal-size mouthfuls feel good. So... that's what just under two weeks out looks like, for me.

My guess and only quasi-educated, the Hibiclens stuff they make you wash pre-surgery and probably use in surgery, Last time I used it, which was February 2017 it was so bad for me, my skin peeled like I had a sunburn on my leg, I had a knee replacement, not. a transplant like Tomkitten told our PCP, boy did he get corrected for that! So when I was having my RnY, I had to double-wash with liquid gold Dial, found out why I was instructed to scrub my navel, my surgeon uses it as one of his trocar ports!! But they are looking pretty fine at this point, even Big Red the biggest one is, lagging a little behind , the rest are witening down, he's a little red. But he was the biggest and baddest, I think he was where Dr Needleman put the tools that count!

Hi I just had my surgery on 10/11. I also had lap band removal and a hernia repair. If anything I’ve noticed a remarkable difference in that my reflux is basically gone. For the first time in years I’m able to lay flat and sleep!!!
That's great...I know the feeling
Good luck [emoji4]

To the people who have been sleeved already has anyone gone crazy and actually ate food they weren’t supposed to? I just did and I am so upset. First I’m upset that it all went down. And second I’m so mad at myself. :(

I am so embarrassed to admit this but I feel like I have too so maybe I won’t do it again. I ate a piece of chocolate, a mini cupcake and two mini donuts. Please don’t send any negative comments, I’m beating myself up enough. I just don’t know why I did this!!! And it all went down!!!!!!!!

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
