Got my sleeve does yesterday, i am
About 24 hrs post op. The procedure its-self was absolutely fine, quick easy,no issues. I do not really have any surgical paid, but the gas they pump you up with is horrendous. Sharp pains, with a burning feeling. They have gone down alot in the first 24 hrs. All i want to do is sleep now, but i get up to walk with no issues.

Wanted to post an update:

Surgery itself, no problems at all. Pretty much immediately when they started giving me stuff to drink I did throw up once, and it was this nasty looking blood stuff. It freaked me out, but they said as long as there weren't other symptoms - I'm fine. First night was OK, with relatively no major pain. The only pain I'm having now really is right at the middle of my stomach. It feels like deep gas pain, but honestly it's hard to tell. The doctors think it might be the incisions, since I haven't had surgery before I don't have much to compare it to. Overall, going OK. I still have not passed any stool since surgery - that's a little alarming to me. How about you guys? My surgery was on the 9th.

Congrats bigcurt! Me being an old timer (surgery was Oct. 2nd) everything you say seems normal. I asked my surgeon about bowel movements and he said it’s normal for them to be few and far apart because we’re only doing liquid. Would be more concerned if I had no urine. Sounds like you’re doing well. Wishing you the best!

I’m 11 days post op (10/1) and this is the first day I’ve felt like myself. I had my 2 week check up today and my surgeon and nutritionist say all is going well. I’m down 20 lbs and was cleared to start stage 4. In my excitement I ate too fast. Got down 4 bites of chicken and it felt wrong. Then I felt sick and threw up. Horrible. Can I just live on shakes and yogurt? I also also got the all clear to exercise but I’m still so fatigued I don’t know what I could possibly get accomplished. Anyway, is anyone concerned about getting enough Water?

My surgery was today, I came out of surgery in so much pain I kept asking myself why I resorted to surgery. My son has been making me work every hour. Now, no pain and just a bit of discomfort in both shoulders. Did not use pain killer but used the anti-nausea tablets twice. I am only able to drink Water today and hopefully can start on the shakes tomorrow.

Sleeved October 11th, so I’m starting my 2nd day post op. Most of the pain is gone, and about 90% of the gas is as well. Feeling a lot better than I was yesterday. Ate a couple of popsicles and drank some juice and broth while in the hospital. A little pain with drinking. Not sure if it’s the temperature of the liquids or if I drank too fast or too much. Hopefully being discharged Saturday morning. All vitals are good and ready to go home.

I’ve been able to walk around and get in and out of bed with relative ease. Not much pain from the incisions or in the stomach area. Looking forward to progressing through to the other food stages as I recover. I will keep you posted. HW: 377 SW: 355 GW: 225.

Good luck to those whose surgery is coming up and congrats to those who are recovering.

Surgery is on Monday! I’m so ready! I’ve been on the pre op diet for 12 days and I’m down 12 lbs, so that’s exciting! Tomorrow I start liquid only (4 Protein Shakes, Water, and Jello) and on Sunday I’m going to do Clear Liquids only. Good luck to everybody having surgery this month!

Sleeves on 10/11/18 and released the next afternoon. I just had to show I could drink 4 oz of liquid and hour for six hrs straight before I could be released. Feeling ok, belly feels like I was stabbed 5 times lol. They have me liquid oxycodone which helps. Difficult to get into our out of bed but hopefully each day will get better.

So, I have a question.. during pre-op diet (with the liquid diet) have any one experienced Constipation ? I’ve noticed my bowels have changed (I know sounds gross) but I was pretty regular before this. Is this because I’m not eating actual solid foods? And just liquid? Because I’m definitely peeing like crazy!

Also, the headache is out of this world! How did some of you ladies manage to cope with that especially with little ones (I have an 8yr old) or work in healthcare (I work with several 8 yr olds)

Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
