I found these little bowels of Raisin Bran that come in a box of 96 for 32.00 on Amazon. They only have 10 grams of sugar. 4 Fiber. 27 carbs. 230 potassium. No fat. It also has a lot of different Vitamins in it. They are the perfect little size to fill me up. They are the right amount for Breakfast with my sleeved stomach. They also have 3 grams of Protein.

I would avoid breakfast Cereal for as long as possible. That's an awful lot of sugar/carbs and calories for only 3 grams of Protein. My team advised me to not eat anything with more than 7 grams of sugar per serving for the first six months to maximize weight loss and I didn't eat "carbs" (cereal, oatmeal, potatoes, rice, bread, etc.) until I was almost 9 months out and then only very carefully.

For those numbers, you'd be better off with a scrambled egg with a tablespoon of cheddar cheese. If you are taking your Vitamins, you don't need sugary cereal supplemented with vitamins.

Do check with your team.

New research shows that carbs are very very good for you. And there is nothing wrong with 10 grams of sugar. I am allowed a certain amount of carbs per day, obviously. 27 carbs is nothing. Seeing as a have one of these little bowels of cereal is not going to hurt me. My lunch and dinner consist of canned Protein Shakes. Given that, there is nothing wrong with these little bowels of breakfast cereal.

I'm 2 years out. I exercise hard roughly 1.5-2 hours daily. I eat 1100 calories, of which there is 120 grams of Protein and 96 grams of carbs. I can't imagine anymore what 325g of carbs looks like. Based on my calculations, 325 g of carbs is 6.5 Bagels in a day. I'd have put back all the weight I lost doing that.

If that's what your team is OK with and it's working for you - great. At the same point in my process, I was down to 1 shake a day and regular meals with real protein and a bit of a vegetable.

Yes, whole grain carbs and complex carbs are good. But for most of us, carbs are what got us in this mess. If your team is good with you eating that - have a blast.

Diane, there is nothing wrong with the little cup of Raisin Bran that I eat with soy milk every morning. It provides Vitamins and is rich in fiber. What would you tell me if I told you that I eat oatmeal every morning?

Can I ask why you made your original post if you didn't want opposing opinions? This is a forum... everything you post is up for discussion.

There is nothing wrong with Raisin Bran for you, but there is something wrong with it for about 80% of the people on this form. Just keep that in mind. Your program rules are very very lenient.

I'm going to say the same thing. There are way better breakfast items that will provide higher Protein values, and a lot less sugar. My program also recommends to keep sugar under 7 grams per meal.

Thank you Ashley for your kind and supportive remarks, I really do appreciate it.

Here's the thing ... you complain you haven't lost weight, that your sleeve isn't working.

You post that you are:

Drinking Gatorade, eating Raisin Bran, eating Cheez-its, eating dates, eating pizza, and those are just what you posted about.

None of us are perfect, but you said you bought large quantities of Gatorade, multiple 32 serving boxes of Cheezits, 96 servings of Raisin Bran, 10 lbs of dates. That is some sort of commitment to not following a sensible plan.

"I am allowed 225 - 325 grams of carbs per days" ... I think you have seriously misread your plan. Because as posted above that is the equivalent of 6+ Bagels.< /span>

You said you are only eating 500 cals per day, and not losing, while posting about the foods I mentioned above. It just doesn't add up, especially for a guy, who usually lose weight faster than women. You are either lying to yourself, or to us.

If you're not, please don't take offense to this, but are you an internet troll? You always seem to post just random things like this (that you're eating things that most people can't/don't eat) and then you get really defensive when people try to explain to you why it's not a good idea to do these things. In this post, you say that you can have 225-325g of carbs per day. Then in a different post, you said that you only eat 500 calories a day. Which is it? There is no way that a reputable dietitian would recommend that you eat that many carbs per day either; that's crazy. It seems like you just comment things on here to get a rise out of people. I don't get it.

I am not an extremist when it comes to weight loss. I am learning that it takes time. I do understand the issue of sugar and in each "bowel" of this Raisin Bran there is 10 grams of sugar. That doesnt bother me or phase me. I can deal with that. The Gatorade helps to satiate my body; I mix it with my Water. And I only had a slice of pizza one third of which I could not finish and have not had pizza since. Go easy on me I am not a bad person or a liar as you (SillyKitty) insinuated.

You subject yourself to criticism based on lamenting in previous posts about lack of weight loss.

Gatorade is worthless unless you are running a marathon and need instant hydration or going for a colonoscopy prep, even then that junk is questionable.

That amount of 225-325 grams of carbs amounts to 900-1300 calories, so I don't say liar I say bullchit. Plain old cow poop.

Actually that was me, not @AshAsh1

If you are fine with slow weight loss, then that's fine. But don't complain about it and say that the surgery didn't work.

You realize that most people on this site are super motivated to make this surgery successful? So most of us don't think that 96 servings of Raisin Bran, or mega boxes of Cheez-its, or 10 lbs of dates are good ideas. So when you post up these purchases and then defend them as good choices, you are not likely to get many people agreeing with you.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
