Well I am happy to say that I had my surgery on 07/30/18! I've had a couple of issues so far....no BM I have started taking a stool softener daily and I also have a sleeve problem...some food feels like rocks trying to pass through. I know there are some great advice givers here just wondering if there are any suggestions.

I would talk to your surgeons office it doesn’t sound right to me. They might advise some different foods. Are u getting all your Water in?

I have been trying very hard to get it in. I have been working on that most of all because of the bowel problem

If you have not had a BM since 7/30, that should be cause for alarm. I would try an enema and I would speak to your doc ASAP.

I would definitely second what @photogirl70 has said. Not having a BM in nearly 4 weeks is definitely cause for alarm. Contact your Dr., right away and see what he would recommend. They may want to see you vs. trying an enema at home. It's possible you're impacted which could require some help with removing fecal matter.

I appreciate all the replies. I had a very terrible BM yesterday but I still feel like I didn't completely void. I have started stool softeners daily hopefully it helps. Also I don't feel bad just some food does not feel right when it hits my pouch or tries to move through. Maybe I will go back to liquid for a while and see if that helps. I did have to stay 5 days in the hospital due to swelling of my sleeve causing severe nausea.

With my situation, I got so impacted, I could feel it in my side. I added Miralax daily in additional to the stool softener. Another option may be taking a dose of Milk of Magnesia. I had to do that once since my surgery on 7/31. I'm at a point now where I haven't had MoM, Miralax, or a stool softener for last last 5 days.

When I was dealing with being impacted, I couldn't eat as well. I think my body was protesting because it was so stacked up.

It was almost a week before I had a BM, and it was also AWFUL. I took MOM (milk of magnesium) to get one going. At first it was very hard and firm. But then once the first bit was done, it looked like a month's worth of poop came out in one visit to the bathroom. I swear, the pre op diet doesn't completely clear you out....

Once you get going, you'll tend to learn your new BM habits. I used to go everyday, sometimes 2-3 times a day. But that's because I was eating for 2-3 people. Now, I go usually every other day. I start to get concerned if its been 4 days. Remember, you eat less now, and our BM will change. Try to incorporate some Fiber (so long as you aren't constipated) and listen to your body.

To keep regular I put four scoops of the costco brand Benefiber in my daily Protein Water. That seems to keep me regular. At the beginning, with eating less and mostly Proteins I was constipated. I did start out with dried plums which I also got at Costco but I find the fiber powder to be much better. As for that feeling in your stomach that's probably you eating too fast. I had that same feeling until I started to eat slower. It takes awhile to learn how to eat slower.

Does your clinic have a nurse you can talk to about your situation of no bowel movement since surgery? As a registered nurse, I have to say, I think that is a serious symptom. You need to talk to a nurse or be seen PROMPTLY.

I had my first bm day 13 post op. I didn’t worry too much since anesthesia and the fact that I’m liquids. I think I’ve taken 3 softeners since surgery.
I’m day 14 post op.

i called my Barix Clinic and they moved my follow up appointment from 09/05 to tomorrow. They immediately said I need to come in and see if the doc can help me. So hopefully tomorrow I will be much better. I never was a regular BM kinda girl so it didn't really click to me that it had been that long and when I did have the urge the other day it was damn near impossible to go. BUT I WILL PAY ATTENTION FROM NOW ON!!! Thanks for the advice @Lyngolean

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
