My surgery was 8/22, and also included the repair of a huge hiatal hernia. (Huge is the clinical term...I thought they were trying to justify the extra 90 minutes and $16k.)

I had some rough pain after surgery, spent three nights in the hospital, and stopped taking pain pills on day six. I tolerate liquids ok, though feel like there’s a traffic jam in the middle of my chest when I swallow anything - even Water.

On day 7 or 8 (Days have blurred.) I got a wicked rash across my torso and right arm. I’m fairly certain the rash is an allergic reaction to the antiseptic soap they sent home to wash my incisions.

I think mostly to keep me sedated, and thus not an inconvenience over the holiday weekend, the Rx for the rash was 200 mg of Benydryl every 4 hours. I spent the last 3 days as a zombie - sleeping so much that I’m afraid I’m now dehydrated. I’d go to the ER, but, since my own doctor’s office doesn’t seem to listen to me, I’m afraid they won’t listen to me, either.

I’m feeling panicky... I’m supposed to return to work on the 12th, and I’m only tolerating applesauce and yogurt, and I’m so weak, I can’t begin to describe it.

Hi I had my surgery on the 22nd too. I was doing pretty good until I switched to purée and bland foods. Nauseous every am so stoped eating and went back on liquids until my second follow up on 9/11. I have heard that the vitamin patches can cause some people to have bad headaches. I was going to ask my dr. About it when I go in. I take liquid Vitamin taste needs something to be desired but I guess it’s better than a headache. Good luck.

My surgery was the 24th. Phase 1 From 8/25- 8/27. Phase 2 from 8/28- 9/11. Phase 3 from 9/11- 10/9. Phase 4 from 10/9 - lifetime. I am still on Phase 2, so maybe you went into phase 2 too soon?? Here I will upload a picture of my Post-Op plan. Thanks for the patch and headache info. That's what I thought since I haven't introduced anything new but the Patches. So maybe liquids it is. Like you said anything is better than this massive pressure headaches. Screenshot_20180906-092307_PicsArt.jpeg

I'm a little over 2 weeks post and have lost 12 lbs. Anyone else getting discouraged when you see others have lost much more than you during the same timeframe? I know we're all different and that I shouldn't compare myself to anyone else but my brain likes to torment me sometimes.

I lost the same. 12lbs in 2 wks post op. Just do you. I have PCOS so I already know my body is stubborn and fights to keep every ounce.

My weight chart looks like this over last 30 days. 4 days preop rest post op almost 3.5 weeks. You can see I stay the same day after day after day, then whoosh, drop down 5-6 lbs then back to holding onto everything. just because I had GB doesn't mean my body still wants to cooperate, lol But I know it doesn't have a choice that eventually it will go.

Going on three post surgery total weight loss 46 pounds. 10 lbs post surgery. Had solid food this week. Know your limit if not it will come back up.
I'm on phase 3 as of today. But I must say its nerve wracking moving into this phase as you dont really know what yo est and when you do find something it doesn't always gets approved by your new pooch [emoji30]. For me for instance it just hurt going down my stomach. And it just feels like its stuck there so immediately my though is to go back to phase 1[emoji85] . Its almost as if I fear seeing my tummy expand just even a little. I'm like [emoji15] oh nooooo!! This post OP phases are really challenging.

I met with my nutritionist as well and she wasn’t as upset as I was about the 8 pounds. She said that’s 10% of my goal weight which is 184. It just gets annoying when I see others losing so much! It makes me feel like I’m doing something wrong and makes me want to revert back to liquid only. This definitely messes with your mind. I wish they required more mental health appointments.

Hi Chell,

How are things? I can relate to feeling kinda discouraged when you see others who have lost more in the same time frame but I try to remind myself that everyone is different and loses at different rates. I had a huge setback because I've been back in the ER twice since surgery, each time for at least 4 days, pumped with IV fluids back to back...I learned a fun fact from that...IV fluids make you gain weight :/ I was down 21 lbs at one point by my 2 1/2 mark, but gained almost 10 of that back from my 2nd stint in the hospital, and now 3 1/2 weeks total post op I FINALLY got back to the amount I lost beforehand. Now, I'm down 23 lbs , but shoulda been more. BUT...again that's the evil scale talking, getting into my brain, and I shouldn't worry about that because what matters most is that I get this eating part down pat and learn and continue to get healthy. The weight WILL come off - it's impossible for it not to. We'll hit stalls (I think I am in one now possibly), each at different periods of time, but endgame we'll get to lower weight. Hang in there...our brains are terrible sometimes lol

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
