I am currently pre-op. I've been on this site for a while, and have noticed that a lot of people have had to have hernia repair. Just wondering, how common is this? Did you know you had a hernia before going in to surgery? Or did you pretty much wake up from anesthesia and the doc was like of yeah by the way...kind of thing?

I woke up after surgery to find out I had a hernia. I have since had my gall bladder out and the same hernia repaired again. 1 1/2 yrs out from that repair it’s back again and I’m having a lot of issues with it. Just about every time I eat my stomach swells up like I’m 3 months pregnant and I usually have to take about 10 gas-x pills to get any relief.

I found out about the hernia from the swallow study, I had it repaired and have not had an issues. Maybe it depends on the type of hernia. Mine was a hiatal hernia. I can breath deeper now, it was putting pressure on my diaphragm. I am glad my Doctor fixed it.

My surgeon repaired a diaphragmatic hernia and an incisional hernia during my sleeve. I didn't know I had either one. It hasn't made my recovery any different from what I see people going through on here. I would have never known if he hadn't told me.

Mine was nasty....a big portion of my stomach was sliding up and living in my chest cavity! Not great for breathing! Prolly popped it open in one of my many horse riding accidents when I went flying off and hit the ground with a resounding thud. Or, it might just be genetic. No way of knowing, really. Maybe I strained to poop too hard? (sadly this actually can be a cause of hiatal hernia)

My money's on horse crashes.

Fixed now and am very glad it is:)

I found out about my hernia a few weeks before surgery when I had a pre-surgery scope done. For years I thought I had a bad case of GERD but turns out the internal hernia was causing it so I'm hopeful for no more heartburn now.

I’m having my surgery on July 30th because of my hernia. My entire stomach is in my chest. It’s miserable. Dr recommended the sleeve or bypass in addition to hernia repair to make sure my stomach doesn’t break through again.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
